MANTECA — A Tracy man accused of shooting into the West Valley Mall on Dec. 20 will now stay in jail without bail because of three charges of premeditated attempted murder added last week to his ongoing criminal case.

Lorenzo Kiko Hotel, 18, was arrested by Tracy police officers Friday for the three new charges on the 800 block of Allegheny Court. He had been released from San Joaquin County Jail on $250,000 bail .

Following his rearrest, Hotel appeared Wednesday in the Manteca branch of San Joaquin County Superior Court.

James Giller, his attorney, told Judge Ron Northup that he wanted his client released on his current bail. Giller said he hadn’t seen the new complaint against Hotel, but he opposed raising his bail because of the added charges. He said he didn’t think it was necessary.

Northup responded by ordering Hotel kept in jail without bail. He moved up Hotel’s next hearing by two days and scheduled a review of possible bail for the same time.

Hotel was initially arrested and booked into county jail Dec. 24 for the crimes of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and premeditated attempted murder. Deputy District Attorney Ron Indran said Jan. 2 that the district attorney’s office chose not to file an attempted murder charge against Hotel at that time because the evidence did not support it.

According to an amended version of the criminal complaint against him, Hotel shot a gun into an inhabited dwelling, which police have identified as West Valley Mall, 3200 Naglee Road, on Dec. 20.

The complaint states that Hotel was allegedly trying to murder two men, Jesus Herrera and Byron Thomas, and an unidentified woman, called Jane Doe.

Sgt. Steve Beukelman, of the Tracy Police Department detectives’ bureau, said Wednesday that investigators were not willing to discuss the latest charges.

Hotel is due back in court in Manteca at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for a bail review and hearing. He remains in county jail.
