Kelly Olds will immediately take the reins of the financially troubled fair, which won’t be in operation this year as leaders reorganize and plan for new concepts aimed at making the fair financially self-sustaining.
Olds, a San Joaquin County resident for the past 20 years, has served as CEO of Provisions Food Co. and as vice president of operations, sales and marketing for Super Store Industries.
He began his career as a human resources manager and labor-relations professional before managing a dry grocery and frozen-food distribution center with 1,000 employees and combined annual sales of more than $1 billion.
Joe Valente, president of the fair board, said Olds is a good choice to lead the fair back into operation after this year’s hiatus.
“We couldn’t be more fortunate to find somebody of Kelly’s background and skill at a time when the fair looks to rebrand itself and develop a stronger bond with the residents of this county,” he said.
Olds attended UC Berkeley and is a graduate fellow of the California Agricultural Leadership Program.
