TFC team takes first at Clovis Cup

This past weekend, the Tracy Futbol Club’s under-16 boys Atletico team traveled to Clovis to take first place in the Clovis Challenge Cup, the team’s first tournament of the season.

On Saturday, Atletico played Tri Valley United to a 2-2 tie until Tri Valley scored in the final four minutes. In the second game Saturday, Atletico took a 6-1 win over Mission Valley United 93.

On Sunday, Atletico was seeded fourth and faced the top seed, Pleasanton Ballistic, in the semifinal. The game ended in a 1-1 tie and went to a penalty kick shootout. Tracy went 4-for-5 and Pleasanton went 3-for-5, which moved Tracy to the championship game, where Atletico took a 3-1 win against undefeated ACE Deportivo.

Crush wins third soccer tourney in a row

The Tracy Futbol Club’s Crush traveled to Livermore this past weekend to take the championship in the Headless Horseman Tournament, the Crush’s third championship in a row.

On Saturday morning, the Crush took a 4-0 win over South Valley Chivas Academy. Goals came from Samantha Tran and Jessica Taylor with assists from Hayley Fife and Amanda Arledge. Danielle Green also contributed on offense, and Bailey Hoffman and Nicole Kelsey held down the defense.

On Saturday afternoon, the Crush went up against Santa Rosa Ice, which had a 1-0 lead before the Crush’s Maya Lopez fought to control the middle while Erika Dias fed the ball through for Tran, who scored to end the game in a 1-1 tie. Halle Burell and Llratiza Torres held Santa Rosa scoreless with tough defense in the second half.

Sunday morning was a must-win if the Crush were to move on to the championship game. They beat San Ramon, 3-0, with goals from Tran and Hayley Fife, and assists from Mattison Stokes, Tran and Arledge. Gabrielle Burns helped the attack on offense, and Kelsey controlled the defense.

In the championship game, the Crush beat host team Livermore. The game was a defensive battle for both teams, though Tran finished a perfectly passed ball from Dias for the 1-0 win.

Goalie Anekha Birdi had 16 saves throughout the tournament, allowing only one goal.

Storm wins Tahoe basketball tournament

The Tracy Storm basketball team took first place in the South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club tournament. The Storm went undefeated among 16 teams from around Northern California.

In game one, the Storm defeated St. Teresa’s CYO team, 62-6. Charise Holloway, Shania Ratliff, Noni Kuumba and Ariana Vaughn-Smith led all scorers with 12 points each. Jasmine Hampton scored eight, and Abby Waters added seven.

In game two, the Storm defeated the Weimar Mustangs, 43-31. Holloway led all scorers with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Vaughn-Smith and Ratliff both added eight. Allie Schmidt contributed five.

The Storm had to get by Jackson in the semifinal, and pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 31-23 win. Kate Bell scored 10 points, Jasmine Hampton added five points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and Holloway added six points.

The Storm defeated last year’s champs, the Carson City Ballers, 37-25 in the finals. The defensive effort of Noni Kuumba all but shut down Carson’s top scorer. Ratliff led all scorers with 13 points, Holloway had six points and Hampton and Bell both added four. Point guard Ashley Lucas was credited with multiple steals and assists.

The Storm will host their annual Toys for Tots tournament Dec. 5 and 6 in Tracy as a benefit for the children at McHenry House Family Shelter.

Tracy player’s team wins in Walnut Creek

The under-13 girls Livermore Storm, including Tracy’s Gabriele Enzmann, are the 2009 Walnut Creek Octoberfest Champions after they beat the Walnut Creek Raptors, 2-1. Enzmann scored on a penalty kick in a tightly contested match.

The girls tied their first game 1-1 against last season’s Association Cup winner, the Folsom Wildcats. Their second game, against the Mill Valley Rockers Red, also ended in a 1-1 deadlock. The Storm won their third game, a contest against the Mustang Tornados, 2-1 to place them in the championship game.
