Storm wins Tahoe basketball tournament

The Tracy Storm basketball team took first place in the South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club tournament two weeks ago. The Storm went undefeated among 16 Northern California teams.

In their first game, the Storm defeated St. Teresa’s CYO team, 62-6. Charise Holloway, Shania Ratliff, Noni Kuumba and Ariana Vaughn-Smith led all scorers with 12 points each. Jasmine Hampton scored eight, and Abby Waters added seven.

In game two, the Storm defeated the Weimar Mustangs, 43-31. Holloway led all scorers with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Vaughn-Smith and Ratliff both added eight. Allie Schmidt contributed five.

The Storm had to get past Jackson in the semifinal, and they pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 31-23 win. Kate Bell scored 10 points, Hampton added five points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and Holloway added six points.

The Storm defeated last year’s champs, the Carson City Ballers, in the finals, 37-25. Kuumba’s defensive effort but shut down Carson’s top scorer. Ratliff led all scorers with 13 points, Holloway had six points, and Hampton and Bell both added four. Point guard Ashley Lucas was credited with multiple steals and assists.
