Kimball High gymnast Shaylyn Garay placed first all-around Monday, April 23, and her teammate Vinessa Narvaez was third all-around to lead the Jaguar gymnastics team to a second-place finish at a seven-way, Santa Clara Valley Athletic League meet.

The Jaguars competed against Tracy, West, Gunn, Palo Alto and Mountain View and Los Altos high schools.

Garay, with an all-around score of 37.15, was also first in the uneven bars (9.15), balance beam (9.30) and floor exercise (9.60). Narvaez, with an all-around score of 36.85, was second on the uneven bars (9.10) and third on the vault (9.20), balance beam (9.20) and floor exercise (9.35).

The host team, Los Altos, placed first in the overall team competition with a score of 142.70. Kimball scored 138.20 for second place and Tracy was third (116.95).

Tracy’s top performers were Rachel Pombo in 9th place all-around and Megan Jessen at 10th place all-around. West’s only gymnast was Brianna Souza, with an 11th place all-around placing.

Kimball was fourth out of six junior varsity teams (111.90) and Tracy was fifth (87.30). Palo Alto High School finished in first place (167.45).

The top performer for Kimball was Emily Torres-Gomez with a fourth-place all-around placing (34.70). She also was second on the vault (9.40) and fourth on the uneven bars (8.40).

Kimball’s Allison Zurfluh was eighth with an all-around, West’s lone gymnast, Chantelle Ralston, was 11th; Tracy’s Mikaela Beardsley and Julie Fernandez were 16th and 20th overall.
