Karate protégé takes first at GSKA event

Jared James of Tracy captured another karate title Saturday, Aug. 11.

This time, his latest win came at the Golden State Karate Association USA National Open Martial Arts Championships in Stockton.

Jared took first place in sparring with a 7-4 win in the championship match at Scottish Rite Auditorium.

He is a purple stripe belt and trains with Tami Whelan-Serrato at Whelan’s Kajukenbo in Tracy.

James competes in the 6-7 boys age group in the intermediate division of the GSKA.

He is the son of Steve and Sandra James of Tracy and has been training for two years.
