Judy Ann Southerland

died 2009-09-03
Former Tracy resident Judy Ann Southerland, 66, died Sept. 3. At her request, no services are planned.

Born Oct. 4, 1942, in Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Southerland lived in Tracy many years and worked at Walmart in Livermore. After a diagnosis of stomach cancer, she retired and moved to Manteca several years ago. She spent the last five months of her life in Livermore with her daughter.

Relatives described her as an “on-the-go” woman who liked to be busy. She loved to dance, read and cook, and she enjoyed volunteering at the senior center in Manteca. She would spend hours working around the house to the sound of easy-listening music. She regularly decorated her windows for holidays, and she collected Elvis and Marilyn Monroe memorabilia, ladybugs and butterflies.

Mrs. Southerland is survived by her five children, Rebecca Claggett, and her husband, Ben, of Livermore, Tami O’Steen of Satphire, N.C., Matthew Southerland of Penrose, N.C., Paula Southerland of Glenburnie, Md., and Royal Edgar “Eddie” Southerland II of Sacramento; four siblings, Jessie Pilant, Robert Laugherty and Sam Laugherty, all of Knoxville, and Lois Humphrey of Killeen, Texas; and 13 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Matlock.

Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., handled arrangements.
