The 17th annual Senior Thanksgiving Dinner was hosted by the Tracy Sunrise Rotary as part of Tracy’s Home for the Holidays celebration.
Pam Warta said preparation for the noon meal began Sunday, Nov. 18, with 68 turkeys going into the oven.
Crews spent Monday morning carving the turkeys and preparing the rest of the trimmings, which included mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, dinner roll and pumpkin pie for dessert.
Tracy Sunrise Rotary president Harold Reich manned a ladle as he dished out potatoes on the assembly line, filling plates to be taken to seniors seated in the dining hall.
“I think it’s an exceptionally well-done dinner. It brings back that small town community feel, shows what a community can do,” Reich said.
A crew of 40 volunteers helped with the dinner's heavy lifting, including cooking, decorating the tables and serving the seniors.
Warta said she expected more than 400 seniors to come to the Portuguese Hall for the dinner while another 72 dinners were delivered to seniors in their homes.

When everyone goes around and asks what they are thankful for, say, “I’m thankful I didn’t get caught” and refuse to say anything more.
Don’t bring a date that only talks about the tragic and abusive conditions known to exist at turkey farms.
During mid-meal don’t turn to mom and say, “see mom, I told you they wouldn’t notice that the turkey was past the expiration date, so you see you were worried for nothing.
