The Bulldogs’ 66-29 win over Tokay High moved Tracy (7-5) to the second round and Tokay (1-9) — last year’s tournament runner-up — into the consolation bracket.
Tracy senior guard Karsi Fyfe scored 19 points for the night. She scored 10 in the second quarter, when she hit two 3-point shots, leading Tracy to a 43-11 halftime lead.
Fyfe is in her fourth year playing in the tournament, and she said the team has a lot of confidence this year.
“I see us going all the way this year, because this is the team everyone has been waiting for,” she said.
“At first we weren’t used to playing together. All of our hustle and practice pays off. We’ve got to stay strong and keep our heads high and play hard.”
Tracy coach Derek Solano got everyone into the game, and nearly everyone scored. Senior guard Taylor Juarez scored eight points, and seniors Emily Anchartechahar and Angela Mariani added seven each.
“We rebounded well, so that helped,” Solano said. “We shot the ball better than we have all year.”
Lathrop 50, West 49
The Wolf Pack fell behind by 13 points in the second quarter but fought back to cut Lathrop’s lead to 27-23 at the half.
West (8-5) brought some solid offense to the third quarter, but the team was still unable to outscore the Spartans (3-4) until the fourth and ended up a point short at the end.
Scoring leaders for West were freshman Lyric Wilson, senior Emma Bell and junior Nini Woodward, who had 10 points each. Woodward also pulled down 12 rebounds, Bell made 10 rebounds and Ileyah Costa provided eight assists.
