A local congressional candidate’s appearance at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., has been pushed back to Tuesday, Aug. 28, because of weather concerns.

Ninth Congressional District candidate Ricky Gill was first scheduled to address the convention Monday, Aug. 26, as part of the four-day convention that is expected to formally name Mitt Romney as the official Republican challenger to President Barack Obama in the Nov. 6 general election.

Gill is seeking a seat representing Mountain House, Tracy north of Interstate 205, and the majority of San Joaquin County.

Changes to the schedule for the 25-year-old challenger to 61-year-old Democratic Rep. Jerry McNerney were part of officials’ decision to postpone most of the convention’s first-day activities because of Tropical Storm Isaac, which is moving through the Gulf of Mexico toward the United States and could have made travel to and from the convention in Tampa difficult.

Gill is likely to appear between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Pacific daylight saving time, according to the convention schedule.
