As fire officials arrived on scene following the report of a structure fire at 14700 Schulte Road around 12:55 p.m., firefighters reported a large column of black smoke and heavy flames coming from the plant.
The fire reportedly started in some equipment inside the manufacturing area and spread vertically toward the roof, Tracy Fire Department Division Chief Dave Bramell said. The material burning was described as buildup of the oil or grease used in the glass melting process.
“Fire personnel did a recon and went up there and isolated the fire,” Bramell said. “It largely resolved itself once the material was consumed.”
Because the fire was isolated to one area, the plant reportedly stayed in operation during the firefighting process. Using dry chemical extinguishers and minimal water, firefighters had the fire out in less than an hour.
“Fortunately, there were no high (financial) loss and no injuries,” Bramell said.
Plant officials were unavailable for comment.
