Football: Kimball hosts Tracy tonight

Tonight’s crosstown matchup pits the Tracy High Bulldogs against the Kimball Jaguars at Kimball’s Don Nicholson Stadium.

It will be the fourth time these two teams have faced off in the pre-league season.Tracy(2-1) beat Kimball (1-1) 53-35 in 2010, the first year that the Jaguars had a varsity team, but the Jaguars won it 29-22 in 2011. The Bulldogs won again, 37-28, in 2012.

So far this year both teams have relied mostly on their running game, withTracycovering 786 yards rushing over three games.

Senior quarterback Damon Stroup usually gives the ball to senior fullback Chaz Briggs, who averages nearly 5 yards per-carry. Juniors Nate Jones and Eric Hawkins have both broken away for big runs, Jones averaging more than 11 yards per-carry and Hawkins with nearly 10 yards per-carry.

Stroup has completed 19 of 30 passes for 227 yards over three games, and he often runs the ball himself, averaging more than 6 yards per-carry.

Kimball has covered 450 yards rushing in two games, the ball going mostly to senior Gaige Allen who has 240 yards on 32 carries, averaging 7.5 yards per-carry. Senior quarterback Ben Juarez has completed seven of 20 passes for 141 yards over two games, but he has negative rushing yards. The Jaguars have also suffered eight turnovers in two games, including five interceptions and three lost fumbles.
