An inmate who reportedly walked away from a minimum security portion of Deuel Vocational Institution on July 1 was captured in Stockton during the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 10, according to the prison.

Enrique Contreras Jr., 25, was located and arrested by agents of the prison’s Office of Correctional Safety, which led the investigation to find him, in Stockton at 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to Lt. George Paul, public information officer for DVI.

Contreras was transferred into the custody of DVI corrections officers and has since been placed in the administrative segregation portion of the prison.

Paul said the day after Contreras’ escape that the inmate allegedly got away by climbing an 8-foot high chain-link fence that outlined the perimeter of the prison at 23500 Kasson Road.

The fence has two strands of barbed wire on the top, he said.

“There was an area where the barbed wire was pulled down, and it is believed this is the point at which Contreras climbed over,” Paul said July 2.

At the time of his escape, Contreras was assigned a bunk in the dairy facility but worked as a janitor for the minimum security section of the prison.

Corrections officers visibly counted Contreras during the midnight rounds, Paul said, but he was gone when they returned for the next night check at 2:30 a.m.

Paul said during the investigation to find Contreras that they believed he was in Stockton, where the San Joaquin County native had friends and family.

He was serving a 32-month sentence for second-degree burglary and was scheduled for parole in April 2013.

Aw gee. More time in prison instead of on the street terrorizing innocent people? No parole? Excuse me while I unpack my air violin and play "My Heart Bleeds for YOU". Bon voyage, Jackass.

I love these Bait Car-type idiots' mugshots. Add a tatoo to the one on his neck a big tatoo on his cheeks that says in large print 'I'M STOOPID'. The justice system gave him a chance and he blew it. That'll be on his record/rap sheet till hell freezes. I guarantee he'll never be trusted again. He threw away an opportunity to do the right thing, prove himself a man and live a good, long life. All that's gone now. That snide look on his face won't last long. Ahead for him is a life of tears, great sorrow, regret and realization he's stupider than a trained monkey.

And he would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for those meddling kids and their dog.

What do you say we all celebrate with a Scooby snack?
