Services will be Friday for former Tracy resident Edward “Lalo” Chaparro, 79, who died Oct. 13 at his daughter’s home in Vancouver, Wash.

Born July 27, 1930, in Rocky Ford, Colo., Mr. Chaparro lived in Tracy for 30 years, aside from a short stay in the Bay Area. He moved to Washington state a couple of years ago for health reasons.

Mr. Chaparro was a steel mill worker in Niles for 10 years, worked as a roofer in the Bay Area for 15 years, and was a member of Roofers Union Local 40 in San Jose.

He liked to fish and loved to take his children fishing and share other sporting activities with them. He also enjoyed watching baseball and football games and was an Oakland A’s supporter and an avid San Francisco 49ers fan.

Relatives say he offered a helping hand to those who needed a boost.

Mr. Chaparro is survived by his four children, Genevieve Chaparro and Hope L. Chaparro, and her husband, Dustin Silva, all of Vancouver, Esther Marroquin of Fremont and Edward Chaparro Jr. of Blythe; two sisters, Adella Flores, and her husband, Manuel, of Tracy and Margaret Pedroza of Fresno; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friday’s memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave. Inurnment will follow at Tracy Cemetery, 600 E. Schulte Road.
