Born March 12, 1947, in Freeport, Ill., Mr. Bakerink moved to Tracy with his family in 1957 when they acquired Tracy Garden Market. He attended local schools.
Mr. Bakerink, who served as a medical corpsman in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad and as truck driver for Smart and Final Foods.
He was known as a devoted father and a lover of animals, especially his pets Jake and June Bug.
Survivors include a son, Max Maly of Murphys; a daughter, Kimberly Bakerink of South Lake Tahoe; sister, Lauretta Clemons, and her husband, Chuck, of Tracy; and brother, Arch Bakerink, and his wife, Joy, of Tracy.
He is also survived by his friend and former wife, Kathleen Bakerink.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Gail and Ruby Bakerink, and a brother, Rex Bakerink.
Sunday’s memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave, and the burial will be private.
