John J. Serpa, 87, a retired Tracy police captain, Purple Heart Marine veteran of World War II and a leader of veterans’ organizations, died Tuesday morning, March 5, at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital. Visitation will be observed beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., with a rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., March 15, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave. Burial will follow in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road.

Jean Bellegarde, 88, a native of Basque country in southern France, died Saturday, March 2, in Tracy. A rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave., followed by a Mass at 11:30 a.m. A guest book can be viewed and signed at www.frymemorialchapel.com.

Zeta Arlene Snyder Caldwell, 103, died Saturday, March 2. No services are planned at this time, but a barbecue celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date. Contributions in Mrs. Caldwell’s name may be sent to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356-9259.

Joe Eliecer Alcala, 77, a retired engineer, died Friday, March 1, in Turlock. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave., followed by burial in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road. Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Road, in Turlock, is handling arrangements.

Brian Dalton, 35, a lifelong Tracy resident, died Feb. 27. A celebration of his life will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave. Burial will be private in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road. A guest book is online at www.frymemorialchapel.com.

Felix U. Fontecha, 89, a U.S. Navy veteran, died Feb. 27 in Tracy. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave., followed by burial in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road. Visitation will be observed from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., where a rosary service will begin at 7 p.m. that night.
