To help survivors regain their self-confidence, JC Penney is offering free haircuts through October, in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Survivors of all types of cancer are invited to receive a free haircut and style at stores across the nation, including the store at the West Valley Mall, said Tracy store manager Michelle Streeter.
“It’s great campaigning support for survivors out there and show them that we care,” Streeter said. “Great way to make them look and feel great about themselves.”
“What they are going through is a difficult situation,” she added. “We can help them get through difficult hurdles.”
In addition to the free haircuts, JC Penney will donate $1 to Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each survivor who takes part in the promotion. Streeter said the donations will be capped at $50,000 nationwide.
Any survivor interested can call the Tracy store, 839-9447, and make an appointment, Streeter said.
One Tracy woman who took advantage of the program was Jessica Zaragoza, a 10-year breast cancer survivor.
“I think it’s great,” Zaragoza said this week. “So great they are doing that. Saves a lot of money with two kids (ages 5 and 8). They wash your hair, cut it and style it at no charge, which is nice.”
The program ends Oct. 31.
