Work to widen Corral Hollow Road north of Kavanagh Avenue will result in a section of the roadway being closed to traffic from Monday, July 16, to Aug. 27.

The closure will involve a section of Corral Hollow between Kavanagh and the West Valley Mall entrance.

Construction crews will expand the road to two lanes in each direction and add sidewalks and bike lanes along Corral Hollow Road between Grant Line Road and the mall entrance, said Paul Verma, city senior civil engineer, who is overseeing the project.

Workers will also set up traffic signal poles and lights on the east side of Kavanagh at the Corral Hollow intersection and upgrade sewer lines in the area, Verma said.

All traffic, except area residents, will be detoured around the construction area using Grant Line Road to Naglee Road.

For information: 831-6400.

Ya wrote, in a response ta a statement suggestin ya leave if ya don't like th area, "Oh kiss my butt. If I could I would, but my husband works in this hell hole of a state and the only reason I stay is because he makes A LOT of money."

Well dearie if "A LOT" of money is what's keepin ya hear in this marriage ta yer husband it don't say much fer th quality of yer marriage an ya should probably just go ahead an leave cus yer marriage ain't gonna be lastin too long.

Regardless if yer hubby is makin a wad of money or not, if ya ain't happy in this "hell hole of a state" that money ain't gonna bring ya any happiness an ya just as well ought ta move on until ya do find that happiness.

In this I speak frum personal experience.

I live in this area and welcome the improvements. To my understanding the area those houses are was rezoned many years ago and have had years to move or sell. Just what i heard and do feel sorry about the effect on people. The traffic may be referring to the crazy people who are in too much of a hurry dropping people off at jacobson. Slow down and think please! It's not the fault of the construction that people drive terribly around schools. Fix the real problem which is the way people drive. It's not the city's fault or anyone else but the drivers. There are other ways around from the school so should not be a issue at all.

I have to say, it really amazes me that people are so petty and want to complain about improvements. Thank goodness the city if fixing this crappy road. I agree with fourthofjuly....I've been here for 4 years and it's about time! @ Sneaky, I think they should get rid of those houses they are eye sores along Corral Hallow near the mall. It makes the area look trashy. Who cares if they close the road for 6 weeks. Go around.....it's not that hard! @ amlee1978, seriously.....if you hate it here so much then leave! No one wants to hear your negatve comments.

Wow, talk about petty - tear people's homes down because they aren't pretty enough for you on your way to the mall? And if your family had to take a 1.5-2 mile detour each time you drove into town and/or added that much time to say, an ambulance responding for your elderly mother, you'd be singing a different tune. So please think about the actual residents who are going to need to cope with this for the next 6 weeks.

I have a question, aren't ambulances and people who live there exempt?

Not if you live on the other side of the closure.

CAL Fire is at the end of VonSosten and it is likely the fire department would get to WVM before any ambulance arrived. And construction crews would likely make way for ambulances if they are on their way to an emergency. Although any ambulance coming back with patient would naturally go around any construction for their patient's safety. The farmers out past Kavanagh may have to go around unless they live between the two edges of the construction points.

We just had Lammers construction on the other side of WVM between Byron and Eleventh.

I had to go around couple of times. But at night I just drove on through.

I have been going to the mall a lot more ever since I discovered the BlackBear, TexasRoadhouse, and the Vietnamese restaurant by Home Depot and I will say this will be nice to have fixed.

I feel sorry for those folks that live along Corral Hollow between grant line and the mall. It appears that the city is just going to take half their front yards. I wonder if they and the city negotiated a selling price or if the city simply stole the land using eminent domain.

They're going to close the road for 6 weeks? I don't think I've ever heard of a widening project that they flat out close the road for 6 weeks. Leave it to Tracy.

While these improvements are definitely needed to help the flow of traffic once everything is completed, it'll be a mess in August once the schools reopen.

I sympathize Aimlee! I was fortunate enough to leave that bleeding heart liberal morass of handouts and incompetent government! My only regret is not being able to leave that sanctuary pit for illegals sooner! Hopefully your husband will find employment elsewhere!
