Club Notes: Sunrise Rotary honors six graduates

Tracy Sunrise Rotary’s scholarship chairman, Alfred Ruiz, and Lissa Cordero, one of the club’s past presidents and a member of the selection committee, chose six high school seniors to receive the club’s annual $1,000 scholarships.

Brittany Dominguez, a senior at Stein High School, received the George Stein Vocational Scholarship. She plans to attend San Joaquin Delta College to study criminal justice, with a career goal of becoming a crime scene investigator.

Arpita Noor, a senior at Millennium High School, also received the George Stein award. She will attend Las Positas College for her general education studies and prerequisites for further studies in dental assisting.

Katelyn Carvalho, a Millennium High senior, received the Wanda Sillivan Community Service Scholarship. Carvalho is a longtime member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tracy, more recently serving as a volunteer and intern. She will attend San Joaquin Delta College and plans to transfer to University of California, Davis, to study exercise science. Her goal is to become a doctor.

Lara Ibrahim is a senior at Kimball High and received the Jack Sjolin Health Professions Scholarship. She will attend U.C. Davis to study pharmaceutical chemistry and plans to apply to U.C. San Francisco for her doctorate.

Suyun Bae, a Tracy High senior, also received the Jack Sjolin scholarship. She plans to study biomedical engineering at U.C. Davis and pursue graduate studies in research science. Her particular area of interest is tissue regeneration and stem cell research.

Aditya Dutta Gupta, a Tracy High senior, received the Jack Sjolin scholarship as well. He plans to study biomedical engineering at University of Southern California with the goal of becoming a doctor.
