Club Notes: A new off-road club and a business networking event

TAAA invites community to officers breakfast

Members of the community are invited to attend as new officers of Tracy African American Association are installed during a breakfast ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4.

The breakfast, emceed by Peter “The Jali” Barrett, will take place in the third-floor activity room at Emeritus at Heritage Place, 355 W. Grant Line Road.

Officers are Melyssa Barrett, vice president; Carolyn Blunt, recording secretary; Mishelle Neverson, membership chairwoman; Howard Baker, education chairman; and Serena Ivy-Gizaw, activities chairwoman.

Breakfast will be prepared by Margie Eaton Forehand, with music selected by Benjamin Young.

City Manager Leon Churchill Jr. will read the charge.

The association sponsors educational, social and cultural events during the year and gives scholarships to graduating high school seniors each spring.

New off-road club to meet

Railtown Offroad, a new local club, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Four Corners Restaurant, 7509 W. Linne Road. Some members will gather early for dinner before the meeting.

The family-oriented social group is intended for people who enjoy a range of four-wheel drive activities. Both day trips and overnight excursions are in the plans.

Railtown Offroad members attended a Marine Corps-Kat Kountry Toys for Tots event at Walmart last month, decorating their vehicles and donating bicycles and toys to the drive.

The club is applying for nonprofit status. Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month.

TBNA announces business networking event

During Tracy Business Networking Association’s Christmas luncheon on Dec. 20, members discussed plans for Your Business Success Grows Here, a networking event from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 31.

The inaugural event for business professionals will feature speaker Clara Chorley at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, 715 Central Ave. Light refreshments will be served.
