Twelve students of the Tracy and Mountain House School Education Network visited the PetSmart store, 2477 Naglee Road, last week to select gifts for dogs and cats at the shelter.
Each student reached for a card with an animal’s picture on a Christmas tree at the store, explained Sarah McNamara, the parent who coordinated the visit. On the back of the card, staff members at the animal shelter had listed an appropriate gift for the animal.
The children went around the store to purchase gifts to be given to the animals at the shelter.
“The students wanted to do something for the animals at the shelter, and this way each student connects with an animal,” McNamara said.
In addition to the shopping spree, the students also played with several animals taken to the store by the animal-control officers.
