Kimball cheer coach Breanna Galicia said it was a high point for her team, which has competed at the NCA national level for four years but finished short of the first-place trophy until this year.
The team placed first in the nontumbling category, outscoring teams from Sutter Union High, Clatskanie High of Oregon and Berkeley High.
Kimball also received an award for the best use of stunts among all high school divisions.
“There were a lot of high schools that we went up against, so that was a big honor,” Galicia said.
About 15 high school teams from California, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Nevada and Arizona competed in various categories.
The Kimball team regularly performs at Jaguar football games and boys and girls basketball games, and it performed the same routine at Knotts Berry Farm.
The featured stunts included pyramids, flips and throws, with as many as four girls of the 19-member team airborne simultaneously during the 2.5-minute routine.
Team members are Audrey Caldwell, Devin Cothren, Natasha Husary, Arianna Lucatero, Ysabella Padojino and Isabella Peralta, all seniors; Madison Bucy, Brittany Courtois, Rachael Drush, Sabrina Hemenez, Brianna Pekari, Macy Richardson, Elizabeth Tait, Jacqueline Vega and Haley Wheeler, juniors; and Taylor Bennett, Lindsey Huckaba, Bianca Lucatero and Emily Sanatora, sophomores.
Their coaches are Galicia, Leanna Granville and Stephanie Silveira.
