Ombudsman volunteers investigate and resolve problems for residents in such homes.
They can also serve as mediators who resolve issues regarding patient rights, financial matters and abuse. They also help with issues regarding residents’ dietary needs, exploitation, neglect and Advanced Health Care Directives.
The volunteers are trained and state-certified. Volunteers receive 40 hours of training in a two-week period, scheduled for September.
Anyone interested in becoming an ombudsman can call 468-3785.
