Ms. Parris was born Nov. 22, 1942, in Georgetown, the capital of the South American country of Guyana, and worked four years as a middle school teacher there before moving to New York. She was an underground supervisor for the Metropolitan Transit System for 20 years and worked another four years as a fabric store manager before retiring.
After a few years in Florida, she settled in Tracy three years ago.
She was a member of Victory Christian Church and often helped feed homeless people.
Survivors include a son, Cortez Parris of Ridgewood, N.Y.; two sisters, Elaine Daw of New York and Wilma Walker of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Thelma Parris, preceded her in death.
Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., handled arrangements. Inurnment will be at a later date in Springfield Cemetery in Springfield Gardens, N.Y.
