Piano students to perform at convention

Eight young pianists from Tracy performed in a regional honors recital in March and will play at the annual Music Teachers Association convention in July at the Santa Clara Hyatt Regency.

The students are Nicole Wright, a senior at West High School; Jharen Rivera and Heather Norman, ninth-graders at Tracy High School; Nathan Concepcion, an eighth-grader at Monte Vista Middle School; Anna Fisher, a St Bernard’s Catholic School seventh-grader; Edward Xie, a seventh-grader at Williams Middle School; Tristan Concepcion, a sixth-grader at Monte Vista; and Thalia Cruzat, a local home-schooler.

All eight are students of Donna Mizuno and Lauren Goodall.

They were selected based on their classical repertoire, technique and sight-reading.

Longtime volunteer celebrated for spirit

An active member of the Tracy community, Matthew Palomino, is among three people chosen to be honored during a May 18 dinner by the San Joaquin County Democratic Central Committee.

Palomino — a longtime basketball coach, Brighter Christmas committee member and Boys and Girls Clubs volunteer — will receive the Community Spirit Award for his nonpolitical work in the city.

The awards dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., preceded by a no-host cocktail hour, at Nena’s Restaurant, 445 W. Weber Ave., in Stockton.

Tickets can be bought online for $35 or at the door for $40. Proceeds support the San Joaquin County Democratic Central Committee.

Sailors, who graduates in June, was the guest speaker at the Tracy Art League meeting Thursday, May 9, at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts.

The art league scholarship recognizes superior artistic ability and future potential.
