Kimball High School sophomore Aloukika Shah led a field of seven area students as the Rotary Club of Tracy hosted the annual Area 4 speech contest Feb. 28 at Tracy United Methodist Church.

Martin Garcia, a sophomore at West High School, placed second, sponsored by Tracy Sunrise Rotary. Upinderpreet Gill, a junior at Tracy High, received an honorable mention. Shah and Gill were both sponsored by Tracy Rotary Club.

Students spoke on the theme “Building communities — bridging continents.” Shah, daughter of Komal and Pramit Shah, will compete with other area winners in the district finals April 9 in Ceres.

Garcia is the son of Rodrigo and Teresa Carrillo. Gill is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Khushwinder Gill.
