Latinos find unity with GOP E-mail
Written by Frank Aquila/South San Joaquin Republicans

A letter from Frank Aquila

Latinos are beginning to realize they can pursue the American dream, seek opportunity and achieve success and don’t need the government to be the resolution to their problems.

Latinos are typically hard workers who hold strong family and social conservative values, believing marriage should be between a man and a woman, in line with the Republican Party. More and more Latinos have started their own businesses and are proving they can do things on their own without government handouts.

This is a concern for the Democratic Party, which has tried to establish its base through fearmongering that survival is only based on the promise of dependence through big government. However, Latinos have come to realize the Democrats have only set the table in the past, but failed to serve the main meal, slowing and ending the scare tactic playhouse of control the Democrats have had on the Latino community. This fearmongering and deception is evident in the Democratic attempt to play on the emotions of the Latino people through immigration.

Illegal immigration undermines those who have gone through the citizenship process legally. The Republican Party respects legal immigration and a guest worker program, allowing those who want to work to better themselves or their family the opportunity to do so. The Republican Party also believes in a protected border from suspected terrorists, drug smugglers and gangs that threaten our national security as well as the cost to defend the nation and house criminals.

Most Latinos appreciate America and have learned the need to assimilate into society. Every culture, including the Asian, Irish, Italian and Portuguese, has achieved success through learning the English language and adjusting to the American culture. Those who fail to adjust and are stuck on the dependence of Democratic social programs and lack the motivation or need to advance, falling into the Democratic trap of social dependence.

Through assimilation, Latinos can advance in education and seek higher positions in employment as well as seek loans for homes and businesses to achieve the success they desire. The Latino community has begun to open its eyes to see the Republican Party offers Latinos an opportunity to achieve goals and gain the respect deserved through hard work, while the Democratic Party has used them as a political puppet.

In 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt said: “There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag ... we have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty, and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

No matter where our ancestors came from, we are Americans. We need to stop dividing Americans against each other. Be proud of your heritage, but love America, and your opportunity to pursue the American dream.

I love your last two paragraph, it is my philosophy, too. Great letter! Disregarding your party, I agree with what you said.
The Latinos who entered our country legally have great respect for our country that they want to be part of our "family" too. That honors our fallen troops of all races, too. Welcome.

A very interesting and well written article,

I don't believe Americans have a problem with legal immigration.
Americans do not accept illegal immigration because as the word says it is "illegal", I am not bothered how you want to define this word.

If this issue can be resolved then I think Unity will prevail.

Just remember legal immigration means you are a "Guest of the American People". Being a Citizen has a totally different meaning.

I love it! Good stuff!! I have read President T. Roosevelts speech many times before and it is one of the finest I have read. Now, most liberals don't like because it is not PC in todays day and age, but you know what? It is true. I also agree with Mr Fitzsimmons, being a citizens does have a totally differnt meaning, it also means you can vote and be a legitamate voice. Thank you Mr Aquila for being real.

Illegal immigrants should be arrested and sentenced to six months in jail in accordance with the law.

I'm all for legal immigration and might also support a guest worker program provided the businesses that wish to hire these non-citizens support their social costs, not the American taxpayer. But the key word above is LEGAL!

Sincerely Yours,

Jim D.

This is the most misguided article I have read in weeks. No touch with reality. Yeah, that's why Latinos voted overwhelmingly Democrat in the last year's election!!!
Latinos would be natural Republican constituents, but the racist right-wing of the party has been very successful in alienating them. Every Latino/a today, because of his/ her name or accent is being looked upon with mistrust these days by the "good 'ole boys" who consistently vote Republican. And considering that one in three legal Americans is a minority today, the Republicans have no chance in hell of ever winning another election if they don't pass a comprehensive immigration reform and get away from the fear-mongrels such as Tancredo and Dobbs.
Immigration is the besginning of the end for the Republican party and only very few realize that!

Aquila's article was breathtakingly wrong.

Latinos should not be too happy with Republicans right now. You say "We need to stop dividing Americans against each other." Dividing Americans is the Republican platform: Americans vs. "illegals"; Christians vs. Muslims; Christians vs. atheists; Patriots vs. "treasonous" war critics. Look at what O'Reilly said just two days ago:
"But do you understand what the New York Times wants, and the far-left want? They want to break down the white, Christian, male power structure, which you're a part, and so am I, and they want to bring in millions of foreign nationals to basically break down the structure that we have." Then, REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE John McCain agreed. So, a frontrunner in the Republican campaign agrees that Republicans need to maintain the white, Christian, male power structure. Sounds inviting to non-white-Christian-males, doesn't it?

Also, that "be proud of your heritage, but love America" line at the end didn't go so well with the Roosevelt quote above it about how America has "room for" one flag, one language, one loyalty. America has room for its people to identify with more than one flag. That is part of our immigrant tradition. A proud Mexican immigrant displaying a Mexican flag is no more a threat to America than a Swedish immigrant (or descendant of) displaying a Swedish flag (something we see a fair amount of up here in the northwest). In fact, it is probably less a threat than the many Republican Americans who still enjoy flying their Confederate flags (perhaps the most treasonous flag possible).

What a moron. If he really were up on the current buzz, he's understand that most Republicans are opening their eyes to the fact that they are an irrelevant political fiction. One that has sustained itself on the teat of fear and hatred for long enough.
