A bill introduced by Rep. Jerry McNerneyl would up brain injury treatment for veterans. Press staff report
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs would be instructed to better coordinate care for veterans who suffer brain injuries under a bill introduced Tuesday by Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton. If passed, the bill will direct the department to create an internal advisory committee on traumatic brain injury, which affects more than half of injured veterans. Brain trauma has become a common injury in the Iraq war and often is a result of bomb blasts and rocket attacks. Traumatic brain injury is caused by a violent head impact that leads to symptoms such as confusion, tiredness, dizziness, blurred vision, strange taste and smell, slurred speech, and numbness, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. McNerney said 12,000 U.S. veterans already suffer from traumatic brain injury. “I just want to make sure we’ve got a hold on this problem,” McNerney said Tuesday. “The scope of the problem is getting so big, we’re going to need to give them some direction.”

Hopefully, Mr. McGermey can get his brain injury treated. Or is his brain damage just from political affiliation.
