Tired attacks just won't work Print E-mail
Written by John D. Treantos Jr.

Yelling smears such as "socialist" like it's the 1950s aren't going to fly in the 2008 election.

Tim Michael Case presented "His Voice" to the Tracy Press (July 30, "Press gives Obama free pass"), and I feel that I must add my voice and deal with some of his "misstatements." He repeats the old saw that the media is giving a pass to Sen. Barack Obama.

I wish this was true, but, as usual, Case is following his prepared script. In reality, the media has been very kind to Sen. John McCain. For example, it was not a reporter who asked McCain how many homes he owns, when he said he could not remember, but a member of a town hall audience.

Case brings up the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and uses him to attack Obama. That is a fair criticism, but conveniently, Case (and most of the media) refuses to mention the Rev. John Hagee of Texas.

When Hagee endorsed McCain in February, the senator hugged him. He went out of his way to get the endorsement of Hagee, his 20,000-person congregation and his several-million tele-congregation.

When Hagee attacked Islam as a false faith, McCain said nothing, and neither did the media. When Hagee gave an anti-Catholic sermon, McCain said he did not agree but continued to support him.

But when Hagee attacked the Jewish faith as causing terrorist attacks in the U.S., and when many Jewish-Americans said no more campaign contributions, McCain dropped Hagee faster than a burning coal.

Case brings up William C. Ayers, a terrorist weatherman of the 1970s and, using guilt-by-association, ties him to Obama. Well, Mr. Case, give up that McCarthyism. It went out in the 1950s.

When Ayers was active, Obama was 7 years old. Most 7-year-olds I know are not influenced by anyone who shaves. Of course, maybe Ayers has grown up and changed his beliefs, which Case denies him.

Another item that the media has not mentioned is McCain and the sport of boxing. While a midshipman at the naval academy, McCain joined the boxing team and became a fair boxer.

When television began Ultimate Fighting matches in the late 1990s, McCain was livid. This was not boxing to him. He tried to get the Federal Communications Commission to ban the broadcasts. When that did not work, he wrote to cable networks that aired Ultimate Fighting, and several of them dropped the programs. He used his position as the chairman of a Senate subcommittee to hold hearings about this sport. But when he found out that the major sponsor of Ultimate Fighting was Anheuser-Busch (his wife controls the Anheuser-Busch distributorship of Arizona), he became very quiet.

The most interesting part of Case’s Voice is his accusation of Obama’s preaching of a "religion of Socialism." I am grateful that Case did not accuse Obama of being a Communist. That routine died in 1991. Had he done so, the people of Tracy would be laughing so hard that it would be a 4.8 on the Richter scale.

I defy Case to point out where Obama has advocated government ownership of the means of production and distribution, and where the senator has preached a classless society. It is not there. But, according to the Fox News/Swift Boat For Liars playbook, just accuse Obama of being a socialist, never mind the truth.

Come on, Case. As the late Ann Richards said: "That old dog just won’t hunt."

John D. Treantos Jr.
I defy Case to point out where Obama has advocated government ownership of the means of production and distribution...

From Obama's book Dreams of my Father (the socialist), a sermon by Reverend Wright,
'white folks' greed runs a world in need'

The intent of redistributing wealth is to create a classless society.

According to the latest IRS the top 50% of payers pay 95% of all the income tax
Obama, "... Robbing from the rich will do, especially if it’s done in the name of fairness."

Government, is already your partner through taxation and more so through higher taxes.
Why should the Fed/State own a business they don't understand when they still get the taxes?

Peter Ferrara- The Wall Street Journal
...The top individual income tax rate, for example, would be increased by 13%, to 39.6%; the next-highest rate would be raised to 36%. The top rates on capital gains and dividends would rise by a third, to 20%
The... payroll tax would be raised between 16% to 32% for families making over $250,000 a year. This means that the real returns... below 0%...
...wants a permanent federal estate tax, with a top rate of 45%; his health-insurance plan includes a new payroll tax on employers; and he also contemplates several increases in the corporate income tax, including a new so-called windfall profits tax on oil companies.

Oil companies make $.08 per gallon.
The State & Fed take $.45 or more per gallon.
You do the work, 85% of the profit goes to government. Who tells the company(s) what to do?
If you think you'll pay the same or less for energy after oil paying for a windfall profits tax,
guess again.

Because he doesn't say government ownership word for word...
doesn't mean it can't be found in his speeches, comments, and writing.

You're so stuck on local government issues, you lost sight that others have a voice. As you are not giving others a chance to voice their opinions, because you are a bully. Don Squishy, pleased don't have me whacked...

I am aware of your disdain for all not sharing your Tom-concentric view of life and that's okay.

Dr. Demento notes me being so stuck on local government issues blissfully unaware that the discussion is on national political commentary and is par for the Benigno.

If my words make you sick... it's very simple... don't read them,
your level of irritability will see a significant drop
that, and maybe some more fiber in your diet.

I remember him Mr. Treantos as a teacher from Tracy High School and respect him for his teaching and former military service.

However, this statement ("of course, maybe Ayers has grown up and changed his beliefs") is absolutely and totally false. In a 2001 interview with the NY Times (pre-9/11), Ayers said he wished or thought he should have committed MORE TERRORISM. Here is the question for Mr. Treantos and other Obama backers: Why is your candidate so close to an unrepentent terrorist? They worked on projects together, Ayers hosted Obama's first fund-raiser at his home, their wives worked at the same law firm at the same time, etc.

I also find it interesting that Mr. Treantos brings up John Hagee and Sen. McCain. Hagee was not and has not been McCain's pastor. Obama sat in Wright's church for 20 years and Wright was his "spiritual mentor." Wright is nuts (America deserved 9/11, GD America, and AIDS was created by the government to kill) and it says loads about Obama that Wright was his pastor.

Obama used cocaine when he was a kid. GW Bush used cocaine when he was in his 30s.

What we might look at is the hatchet job focus the media did with GW during his run as opposed the scrutiny Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden have received to date.
Because of the media, before the election I knew about GW's:

DUI
alcoholism
possible use of coke
membership in the Skull and Bones
grades
poor public speaker
hard headed
relationship with his mother and father
term as governor of the State of Texas
Time as owner of the Astros
Laura Bush and her history
position on the death penalty
relationship to 'Big Oil'
for lower taxes for friends and wealthy
his daughters problems
his friends problems
his advisors and their problems
his potential cabinet choices
his potential court choices

Because of the media, before the election I know about Obama:

he's articulate
he writes books
he cares
he speaks in platitudes
he's got a wife and two girls he loves
he graduated Yale with honors
he worked for Wall Street
his wife works in a hospital foundation setting
he spent time setting up deals as a community organizer
he spent some time as a state senator for Illinois
he is serving his 1st term as his state senator to Washington
he served on a board to dispense money to school districts
he is for higher taxes for the people paying 95% of them
he no longer maintains some relationships due to internet pressure

We'd like to see an equal level of scrutiny by all the media for all.

Typical of you to play the whitey card. I'd support black presidential candidates:

Mike Steele
J.C. Watts
Thomas Sowell
Condoleeza Rice

Will you?

AMEN! John!
Why isn't the media reporting the "Hate America" connections with Sarah Palin like they were doing with Obama?
Founder Of Group Palin Courted Professed "Hatred For The American Government"; Cursed "Damn Flag"
By Greg Sargent - September 2, 2008, 6:10PM
The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."

The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

"And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

4959
...
written by margy , September 14, 2008
At another point, Volger advocated renouncing allegiance to the United States. In the course of denouncing Federal regulation over land, he said:

"And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska."

You can listen to audio of the relevant section of the Volger interview here. Bill Schneider, curator of oral history at the library, verified the authenticity of the interview and the quote to me a few moments ago.

Palin has courted the group over the years.

Three years after the controversial interview, in 1994, Palin attended the group's annual convention, according to witnesses who spoke to ABC News' Jake Tapper. The McCain campaign is disputing her presence there, but Tapper found two people to attest to it.

The McCain campaign today produced Palin's voting registration records, and said they proved she was never a member of the party.

But she has repeatedly reached out to the group. The McCain campaign has confirmed she visited the group's 2000 convention, and she addressed its convention this year, as an incumbent governor whose oath of office includes upholding the Constitution of the United States.

4959
...
written by margy , September 14, 2008
Palin's husband, Todd Palin, was a member of the party from 1995-2002 with a brief exception in 2000.

It's worth noting that Vogler isn't just some figure from ancient history. He is still being hailed on AIP's site this year, the same year Palin addressed the group's convention.

It's worth pondering how big a deal it would be if Obama had ever courted the support of a group whose head had said this kind of thing about America and her flag. Oh, wait...

That argument isn't substantive. Did you see Obama's interview with Bill O'Reilly - who by the way was very fair with him?
Obama never answered the question about the Woods foundation. He even said tried to make excuses for Ayers by saying that it was soooo long ago that he actually committed his atrocities. Actually, Ayers recently did an interview where he said that he should have committed even more terrorism and he wasn't sorry at all. How nice!
Come on, Obama distanced himself from Reverend Wright...it is called political expediency. You don't go to a church for 20 years knowing the Reverend makes outrageous statements.

Also, the media has never delved deeply into Obama's past. They ask him, he denies it, so OF COURSE, none of it is true...or so the media would have us believe. It is all endless rhetoric IMO.

Old Colleagues Recall Obama's Year In Global Finance
Boston Globe | August 6, 2008 12:45 PM

Barack Obama has authored two books, heralded for their poetic reflections on the conundrums of identity and the possibilities of politics. But his first professional writing was for a weekly newsletter more concerned with how investing in gold futures in Sao Paulo and London could be used to hedge against the fluctuating value of Brazilian cruzeiros.

Obama rarely talks about his year spent within the arcane sphere of global finance as a junior editor for Business International Corp., a publisher based in New York.

-The importance of empirical evidence, not only in a narrow technical sense but as reflected in the broad record of history.
-The competing basic visions of policy makers, and their role in the interactions of elites versus the ordinary masses.
-An importance of trade-offs, constraints and incentives in human decision making.

Writing for a newsletter on global finance is the same thing as working in global finance? My mistake. I suppose this means journalists are qualified for office?

My advice to you? Join the media. You seem to have your agenda set down to a science.

Former Oklahoma Sooners and Canadian Football League QB J.C. Watts is famous for being the only black congressman not to join the Congressional Black Caucus. He entered business and politics at the behest of others... a far cry from presidential material IMHO but he is indeed black. Nice work.

Mike Steele is a former Lt. Gov of Maryland and chair of the Maryland GOP who now cashes checks from FOX News. Surprised you didn't suggest Alan Keyes for the White House.

Thomas Sowell is an 80-year old Hoover Institute Fellow. This would be the first time I'd ever heard a right-winger pleading for a brainbox to be in office -- I wish I'd heard this in 2000 and 2004.

But let's get back to the point. The point of this letter is long-lost; maybe we can at least salvage something.

It may just boil down to a difference of opinion if the two sides are getting "fair treatment" from the media. I'll let you in on a secret: objectivity is a fantasy at beast, an ideal to strive towards. You can't ever guarantee you'll achieve it, because, as this discourse displays, one man's objectivity is another person's blatant bias.

Keep in mind it was an audience member, not a reporter, who asked McCain how many homes he owns. McCain still gets "The Maverick" treatment even as his platform resembles Bush's more and more and crowds chant "Drill Baby Drill!"

You also knew plenty positive about W -- Harvard MBA, long-standing governor, Christian, family man, clears brush and stuff from his ranch or whatever. I could cherry-pick this and that to make whatever argument I wanted -- but then I'd be biased, now wouldn't I?

You're going astray again...

while some disagreement may be bias, defending or advocating one's position
is what being an American is about, even a silent American.

Yes you would... some of your knowledge came from MSM, some because of internet pressure.
Cherry picking (fact checking) is the basis for disagreement with the original letter.

Sarah Palin and creationism!! Seperation of church and state!!!
McCain's VP Wants Creationism Taught in School
By Brandon Keim August 29, 2008 | 12:57:43 PMCategories: 2008 Presidential Election, Evolution, Religion

Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin wants creationism taught in science classes.

In a 2006 gubernatorial debate, the soon-to-be governor of Alaska said of evolution and creation education, "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of education. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both."

(Read about Palin's views on ANWAR and polar bears on our sister blog, Threat Level.)

Asked by the Anchorage Daily News whether she believed in evolution, Palin declined to answer, but said that "I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class."

"I'm not going to pretend I know how all this came to be," she said.

The battle between evolution and creationism -- specifically, Christian creationism -- in U.S. classrooms dates back to the 1925 Scopes trial, when a Tennessee court banned the teaching of evolution. Since then, state and federal courts have repeatedly rejected so-called creation science in public schools, calling it religion rather than science.

The latest courtroom defeat came in the 2005 Kitzmiller v. Dover case, when the superficially religion-neutral theory of intelligent design was classified as religious creationism. The Supreme Court ruled in 1987 that teaching creationism violated the separation of church and state.

It's interesting to see that the Republican supporters do not
have absolutely any commment about Sarah Palin and the "America
Hate" topic and they try to dismiss it and not confront it.
These were the same people who were up in arms about Obama and his
wife and anything to do with their patriotism. Now someone in their party has a connection, they have absolutely nothing to say
except for dismissing it or ignoring it like it doesn't matter to them. Interesting!
I also noticed that the Republican supporters have absolutely
mentioned anything about how much their new president and policies
would bring about the "ppositive" change to the economy and jobs
and health care and etc...
I don't think they even have any solutions to the credit debacle
unemployment, housing crisis, rising food and energy costs
things that really matter to us because they haven't really gave us any details about how they are going to help us except cut
taxes. Well, cut taxes then what? You can talk about cutting taxes and to fight all the wars and pro-life, well what does that have to do with the real issues like our jobs, healthcare, credit crisis
reducing food and energy prices, with all the talk about the being
"Mavericks" what are they going to do to fix the economy? You want to convince people how much your way works give us some specific examples about how your way will improve the economy now.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

This world in arms is not spending money alone.

It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.

The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities.

It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population.

It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals.

It is some 50 miles of concrete highway.

We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat.

We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people.

This is, I repeat, is the best way of life to be found on the road the world has been taking.

This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."

Military-Industrial Complex Speech, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Public Papers of the Presidents, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1960, p. 1035- 1040
A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction.

Our military organization today bears little relation to that known by any of my predecessors in peacetime, or indeed by the fighting men of World War II or Korea.

Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations.

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence -- economic, political, even spiritual -- is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist and arise.

Military-Industrial Complex Speech, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.

In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present

and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientifictechnological elite.

It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system -- ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society.

V.

Another factor in maintaining balance involves the element of time. As we peer into society's future, we -- you and I, and our government -- must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering, for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.

VI.

Down the long lane of the history yet to be written America knows that this world of ours, ever growing smaller, must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect.

Such a confederation must be one of equals. The weakest must come to the conference table with the same confidence as do we, protected as we are by our moral, economic, and military strength. That table, though scarred by many past frustrations, cannot be abandoned for the certain agony of the battlefield.

Disarmament, with mutual honor and confidence, is a continuing imperative. Together we must learn how to compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose. Because this need is so sharp and apparent I confess that I lay down my official responsibilities in this field with a definite sense of disappointment. As one who has witnessed the horror and the lingering sadness of war -- as one who knows that another war could utterly destroy this civilization which has been so slowly and painfully built over thousands of years -- I wish I could say tonight that a lasting peace is in sight.

Happily, I can say that war has been avoided. Steady progress toward our ultimate goal has been made. But, so much remains to be done. As a private citizen, I shall never cease to do what little I can to help the world advance along that road.

Anyone read the book, "Left Behind"? Obama sure makes me think of the main world character.. scary! The attitudes of the poplace are so similar to the book. If it comes to pass, God help all of us.

Obama is talking about implanting chips in babies for citizenship? Switzerland is already doing that to protect their citizens' resources.. what does that mean for world crisis...if the world resources runs low? Would we have to swear our alliances to get the resources we need? Sounds extremely paranoid? Maybe, not all that confident the change Obama wants for us is necessarily the best for us, since it is on Global scale?

Media needs to reduce their inflamming of unfavorable gossips and address the true issues facing the American citizens or they will be an accomplice to the changes that Obama may bring upon us?

....just my paranoid viewsmilies/wink.gif that is why it was so hard for me to decide before McCain appointed Palin, seeing that he is truly a maverick breaking the tradition, in keeping with his promise of "change".

McCain and Palin will take back America with our help!
Obama will give away America with the global help.... which way do we want to go as Americans?

Phill Gramm
John McCain presidential campaign, 2008
He was John McCain’s presidential campaign co-chair[8] and his most senior economic adviser[9] from summer 2007[10] to July 18, 2008.[8]

While advising the McCain campaign, Gramm was being paid by UBS to lobby Congress about the U.S. mortgage crisis. During this time, "the mortgage industry pressed Congress to roll back strong state rules that sought to stem the rise of predatory tactics used by lenders and brokers to place homeowners in high-cost mortgages."[11] According to Politico.com, Gramm had input on McCain's March 26, 2008 policy speech on the mortgage crisis.[11]

In a July 9, 2008 interview explaining McCain's plans in reforming the U.S. economy, Gramm downplayed the idea that the nation was in a recession, stating, "You've heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession," and "We have sort of become a nation of whiners, you just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline."[12]

Phil Gramm
CONTINUED FROM WIKIPEDIA
Banking Deregulation and the 2008 Mortgage Crisis
Later in his Senate career, Gramm spearheaded efforts to pass banking reform laws, including the landmark Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999, which served to reduce government regulations in existence since the Great Depression separating banking, insurance and brokerage activities.

Years later, critics of Gramm point out that this same legislation may have been pivotal in encouraging the corporate practices that led to the 2008 mortgage crises in America.[5]

Between 1995 and 2000 Gramm, who was the chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, received $1,000,914 in campaign contributions from the Securities & Investment industry.[6]

Later, as lobbyist for Swiss bank UBS, Gramm pressured congress ease it's restrictions on predatory lending tactics by mortgage brokers. For his efforts, Gramm received $750,000 from UBS in a one year period starting in 2007.[7].

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, also known as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act, Pub. L. No. 106-102, 113 Stat. 1338 (November 12, 1999), is an Act of the United States Congress which repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, opening up competition among banks, securities companies and insurance companies. The Glass-Steagall Act prohibited a bank from offering investment, commercial banking, and insurance services.

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) allowed commercial and investment banks to consolidate. For example, Citibank merged with Travelers Group, an insurance company, and in 1998 formed the conglomerate Citigroup, a corporation combining banking and insurance underwriting services. Other major mergers in the financial sector had already taken place such as the Smith-Barney, Shearson, Primerica and Travelers Insurance Corporation combination in the mid-1990s. This combination, announced in 1993 and finalized in 1994, would have violated the Glass-Steagall Act and the Bank Holding Acts by combining insurance and securities companies, if not for a temporary waiver process [1]. The law was passed to legalize these mergers on a permanent basis. Historically, the combined industry has been known as the financial services industry.

The Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in the United States and included banking reforms, some of which were designed to control speculation.[citation needed] Some provisions such as Regulation Q that allowed the Federal Reserve to regulate interest rates in savings accounts were repealed by the Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act of 1980. Other provisions which prohibit a bank holding company from owning other financial companies were repealed in 1999 by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.[1]

Thank You Phil Gramm for deregulating the housing market!!!

Two separate United States laws are known as the Glass-Steagall Act. The Acts (Glass & Steagall) were both reactions of the U.S. government to cope with the collapse of a large portion of the American commercial banking system in early 1933. While many economic histories attribute the collapse to the economic problems which followed the Stock Market Crash of 1929 it is clear that the U.S. banking collapse of 1933, which came three and a half years later, could only have been partially the result of the stock market collapse in October 1929.

The Republican Hoover administration had lost the November 1932 election to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, but his administration did not take office until March 1933. The lame duck Hoover Administration and the incoming Roosevelt Administration could not, or would not, coordinate actions to stop the run on banks affiliated with the Henry Ford family that began in Detroit Michigan in January 1933. The Federal Reserve under its chairman Eugene Meyer, who would buy the Washington Post out of bankruptcy in May 1933 as he left his post as Chairman of the Federal Reserve, was equally ineffectual
