Woman VP makes no difference Print E-mail
Written by Sharon Franceschi

When it comes to this year's election, merely having a woman on the GOP ticket won't sway this voter one iota.

Although I was disappointed that Sen. Hillary Clinton didn’t win my party’s nomination, I never once thought I should change to the Republican Party — for many reasons.

Its platform is contrary to my fundamental beliefs, mostly. Also, that President Bush has run the country into the ground and that Sen. John McCain has agreed with Bush 90 percent of the time doesn’t make me feel any warmer or fuzzier toward the Republican Party or McCain. I am standing by my party with pride and will honor Clinton by doing what is best for my country.

I am a proud American. I am a proud American woman. And I am a proud American woman who supports Sen. Barack Obama.

America has never needed to change as much as we need to now, and it has never been more clear that McCain will give us another four years of Bush-Cheney antics. We cannot afford, literally or figuratively, another four years of the politics espoused by President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Did McCain not realize how insulting it would be to the intelligence of every American woman to select Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate? A pro-life, right-wing conservative who believes that every pregnancy should be carried to full term, even in cases of rape and incest?

Never have I been so incensed by a presidential nominee’s choice of running mate. This person is a heartbeat away from running the country, and yet he met her only once before he asked her to be his running mate? She’s been the governor of Alaska for less than two years, and he expounds on Obama’s lack of experience?

She’s also at the center of an investigation in her own state. Faye Palin, Palin’s mother-in-law, has been quoted as saying that she is still thinking of voting for Obama and that, "I’m not sure what she brings to the ticket, other than she’s a woman and a conservative."

Yes, Mrs. Palin, those are my thoughts exactly.

So what happens if the 72-year-old McCain dies, and your daughter-in-law has to step into the office for which she has admitted she’s vastly under-qualified?

The entire party is so out of touch with America, it is pitiful. McCain blames the housing crisis on homeowners. Big oil needs tax breaks, and the middle class needs to stop whining.

McCain thinks the "fundamentals of our economy are strong." For whom? And where? Have you looked around in Tracy or in Mountain House, where every other house is being foreclosed on?

McCain’s judgment is judgment we cannot afford to trust. He has appointed a running mate who doesn’t care about women’s issues.

How can you be pro-life and pro-war? And how can you choose a running mate whose own 17-year-old unmarried daughter turns up pregnant less than two days after you’ve announced that she’s now your running mate? How can we trust her judgment to run a country when she can’t give her own daughter birth control education? And how can we trust McCain to run our country when he can’t even run his own campaign?

We need education for our children. Obama will give college students tax breaks to help pay tuition, middle-class tax cuts for 95 percent of us and emergency energy rebates to help us cope with rising gas prices.

Give our country the chance it needs. We don’t need more of the same. Don’t give them four more years. Give them the four more months they deserve.

Sharon must not be paying attention to the poles. There has been somewhere between a 17 - 20% swing in white women voters going over to McCain since his VP announcment.
I'm also starting to believe that liberals are actually dumb. The housing bust IS the fault of both the homeowners and the banks. It has NOTHING to do with Bush or the Republican party. Here's some simple economics for Sharon and her liberal buddies.
Stated income loans were supposed to be for business owners and others, such as people in the food service industry, that had a hard time showing their true income. Banks started letting everyone go stated, that's mistake number one.
Banks also started treating people with 550 credit scores the same as people with 700 credit scores. People have bad credit for a reason, they don't pay their bills. That's mistake number two.
Whether being misled by the banks or not, people signed loans they could not afford. You can't make a $50 credit card payment but all of a sudden you can afford a $2,500 house payment? You have a three day recission period so if you have any doubts about what you signed you can still back out. Apparently no one took advantage of that. That would be mistake number three.
I hate to see anyone loose their home but the harsh reality is most of the people loosing their home should not have qualified nor signed for the loan in the first place. Stop blaming everyone else and look in the mirror.

Talk about projection...

She’s also at the center of an investigation in her own state

DNC and the media are pretty rabid and insensitive...
oh wait, did you mean about her brother-in-law using a taser on his 10 year old that threatened to kill the governors father and sister?

Investigations by hard core Obama supporters... how might this turn out?

And how can you choose a running mate whose own 17-year-old unmarried daughter turns up pregnant less than two days after you’ve announced that she’s now your running mate?

Obama can't be president either?
His mom did the same thing and her husband left her having more of his love to share.

Have you looked around in Tracy or in Mountain House, where every other house is being foreclosed on?

Tracy has about 20,000 homes and you say 10,000 are in, or have been foreclosed?
If 5% of the homes are struggling though foreclosure isn't there something amiss?

The feminazis only support a woman if she supports killing the unborn. They don't support ALL women, just liberal women. Abortion is the holy sacrament to the religion called liberalism. It devours the soul first, and then the mind.
The truth is, America is a predominantly conservative country. We were built on our faith and our ability to be self-sufficient. Sadly, many have strayed away from faith and turned to selfish ideals like "if it feels good, do it" and as a result, our culture becomes perverted. The idea that those who don't believe in something will believe anything strikes like an arrow in the heart of the liberal ideals, where man is supposedly the greatest and there is no God. This, in turn, leads to the empty, hollow, unhappy feelings and pure rage that define liberalism. So enthralled oneself as to be hateful of those who do not agree with your controlling agenda... I'm sure you will boil at just reading this. I will pray for you.

The point of this letter is that a gun-toting creationist who wants to take the women's rights movement back to the 19th century has nothing to do with Hillary Clinton -- other than they both wear skirts.

The fact that so many voters seem to disagree with this is mind-boggling. But I'm not listening to the polls -- they said Kerry would win in '04, after all. What voters do see in Sarah Palin continues to be well beyond me. There are a dozen California cities with more people and resources to manage than the state of Alaska. Gavin Newsom has more executive and foreign policy experience than the 20-month governor.

To newsflasher,
You need to be corrected on a statement. Hillary does NOT wear a skirt. She wears Pant suits! Sarah Palin wears Skirts and dresses and dress suits.....BIG DIFFERENCE...... Go Sarah! She's got my vote for VP! She knows of what she speaks and is not afraid to say it. She is also a real Community Organizer (Mayor) NOT a neighborhood agitator (Obama).

AMEN Sharon!
By the way why isn't the Sarah Palin "Hate America" connection being reported daily in the same way the Obama "Hate America" connection was reported frequently earlier this year?
Founder Of Group Palin Courted Professed "Hatred For The American Government"; Cursed "Damn Flag"
By Greg Sargent - September 2, 2008, 6:10PM
The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."

The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

"And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

4959
...
written by margy , September 14, 2008
At another point, Volger advocated renouncing allegiance to the United States. In the course of denouncing Federal regulation over land, he said:

"And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska."

You can listen to audio of the relevant section of the Volger interview here. Bill Schneider, curator of oral history at the library, verified the authenticity of the interview and the quote to me a few moments ago.

Palin has courted the group over the years.

Three years after the controversial interview, in 1994, Palin attended the group's annual convention, according to witnesses who spoke to ABC News' Jake Tapper. The McCain campaign is disputing her presence there, but Tapper found two people to attest to it.

The McCain campaign today produced Palin's voting registration records, and said they proved she was never a member of the party.

But she has repeatedly reached out to the group The McCain campaign has confirmed she visited the group's 2000 convention, and she addressed its convention this year, as an incumbent governor whose oath of office includes upholding the Constitution of the United States.

written by margy , September 14, 2008
Palin's husband, Todd Palin, was a member of the party from 1995-2002 with a brief exception in 2000.

It's worth noting that Vogler isn't just some figure from ancient history. He is still being hailed on AIP's site this year, the same year Palin addressed the group's convention.

It's worth pondering how big a deal it would be if Obama had ever courted the support of a group whose head had said this kind of thing about America and her flag. Oh, wait...

What is disappointing is that some people are insulted that Palin is on the GOP ticket. Palin has that right. Women will not vote for Palin merely because she is a woman and to suggest otherwise is not accurate. Some women BELIEVE that she can do the job despite what the liberal media is saying...actually I know a ton of democrats (male & female) who are actually voting for her. A lot of women are displeased with the Hillary Clinton issue. There is no denying that at a minimum she should have been on the ticket as VP. If Obama is really for CHANGE as he states, this was the time to show and prove. The only thing he proved was that he was happy with the status quo.

A MODEL OF THOROUGH FACT-CHECKING...
...the New York Times is not. On Monday, the Times published an article criticizing John McCain for failing to check thoroughly enough into Governor Sarah Palin's background before selecting her as his running mate. The Times cited a "series of disclosures [that] called into question ... how thoroughly Mr. McCain had examined her background before putting her on the Republican presidential ticket." As it turned out, though, it was the Times that failed to investigate thoroughly. One of its "disclosures" was false, as the paper admitted this morning:

An article on Tuesday about concerns over Senator John McCain’s background check of Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, his choice of running mate, misstated the history of her political party affiliation. As The Times has since reported, she has been a registered Republican since 1982; she was not for a couple of years in the 1990s a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, which advocates a vote on whether her state should secede.

NY Times also have not retracted the lie that she banned library books. A cartoon exists in yesterdays Record opinion page still smearing this lie! Ex-Mayor Koch used this library-book smear for his reason to be against her, even after the news anchor had to keep telling him that BOTH political parties acknoweldge it to be a false rumor! The rumor said she even banned Harry Potter books, which came years after her alledged book banning! Smears and DOES NOT show any "change" in politics! At least Republicans are making promises (with track record) of stopping excessive spending (por barrel)-- what is Obama goign to be held too???

And Sharon, better look at the demoncratic-controlled congress when looking WHO to blame the economy.

Congress has authority over financial and budgetary matters, through the enumerated power to "lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States." (power of the purse) The Sixteenth Amendment extended power of taxation to include income taxes.[7] The Constitution also gives Congress power over appropriating funds, with all government spending required to be included in congressional appropriations. This power is an important way for Congress to keep the executive branch in check.[7] Other powers granted to Congress include the authority to borrow money on the credit of the United States, regulate commerce with foreign nations and among the states, and coin money.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U...s_Congress
--Sharon, Why is Congress' rating lower than Bush? Why blame Bush when the Democrats had control of the "purse"!!

You just vote for a party, not the issues. Obama needs to DO SOMETHING SOMEDAY to prove some leadership. McCain has taken on his own party NUMEROUS times!

By the way, I agree with Sharon on disliking Palin based on the woman's values. I would not have an abortion unless the circumstances were unimaginably difficult. I do see that other people right to choose is important. Even God gives us free will.
I am flabbergasted that people would trust someone to run the country who does not place importance in her own children. I am not just talking about a teenage child who is pregnant. She is also giving the impression that she approves of her daughter and the babies child-father being together. She has five kids? Which ones has she helped raise? The youngest has downs Syndrome. That child will need lots of physical, educational and emotional care. Who will be providing that?
And another thing....The Alaskan people have been paying for those children to get medical care because Mommy works for them. That baby was conceived and the prenatal visits are being funded by the Alaskan people. Are we willing to make those children a national project? I have nothing against children, especially the developmentally delayed, but this woman is going to bring her mess along with her if she becomes vice president. Not only will the American people be paying for those five kids, but we get the joy of funding that illegitimate baby, too. How's that for those of you who claim to be the moral majority?

There are many who feel that a PARENT (male or female) with children, is NOT a "mess"! Further, having a Special Needs parent in the White House is a MAJOR PLUS for that special interest group, and those with true compassion and acceptance of a special needs child! Just like African-American, Latino, Asian, or gender: special needs is a key important issue in our high-stakes NCLB laws right now! Your "liberal" attacks and lack of respect for family realities is what is wrong with this country, and why Democratic-controlled Congress did not watch the "purse" or "pass any laws"!!!

That baby was conceived ...are we willing to make those children a national project?
YES! WHY NOT? Wher's yoru love? Treat everyone equal!

Finally, are you suggesting that our civil servents not be given health isurance?! That's crazy. It is a contractual part of the job description, just like most every full time job has, so what's your point??

BTW why is it that we heard so much about pastors and we don't hear so much about Palin?

Sarah Palin and Her Pastors: “Those that die without Christ have a horrible, horrible surprise”
By Sebastian Jones and Ken Silverstein

During the 2008 campaign the beliefs of various candidates’ spiritual mentors has attracted a great deal of attention, especially those of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and to a lesser extent those of John Hagee, who endorsed John McCain. So now seems an opportune time to examine the viewpoints of Sarah Palin’s two most recent pastors, as expressed in their sermons.

Since becoming governor in 2006, Palin has attended the Juneau Christian Center, where Mike Rose serves as senior pastor. Her previous pastor was David Pepper of the Church on the Rock in Palin’s hometown of Wasilla — a church that “was kind of a foundation for her.”

Of the two, Rose is certainly the more politically active, both locally and in the broader evangelical community (with ties to Hagee’s Christians United for Israel, for example). Pepper, it should be noted, is outspoken on slavery, racism, and the massacres of Native Americans, all of which he terms “sins” that still cast a long shadow on minority communities.

Sebastian Jones found links to many sermons by Rose and by Pepper. The excerpts below come from his review.

Mike Rose, senior pastor at Juneau Christian Center

From an April 27, 2008 sermon: “If you really want to know where you came from and happen to believe the word of God that you are not a descendant of a chimpanzee, this is what the word of God says. I believe this version.”

From a July 8, 2007 sermon: “Those that die without Christ have a horrible, horrible surprise.”

From a July 28, 2007 sermon: “smilies/grin.gifo you believe we’re in the last days? After listening to Newt Gingrich and the prime minister of Israel and a number of others at our gathering, I became convinced, and I have been convinced for some time. We are living in the last days. These are incredible times to live in.”

David Pepper, senior pastor at Church on the Rock:

From an November 25, 2007 sermon: “The purpose for the United States is… to glorify God. This nation is a Christian nation.”

From an October 28, 2007 sermon: “God will not be mocked. I don’t care what the ACLU says. God will not be mocked. I don’t care what atheists say. God will not be mocked. I don’t care what’s going on in the nation today with so much horrific rebellion and sin and things that take place. God will not be mocked. Judgment Day is coming. Where do you stand?”

From an October 28, 2007 sermon: “Just giving in a little bit is a disastrous thing…You can’t serve both man and God. It is one or the other.”

Sarah Palin and religious extremist connections

Bruce Wilson, Alternet - Sarah Palin's churches are actively involved in a resurgent movement that was declared heretical by the Assemblies of God in 1949. This is the same 'Spiritual Warfare' movement that was featured in the award winning movie, "Jesus Camp," which showed young children being trained to do battle for the Lord. At least three of four of Palin's churches are involved with major organizations and leaders of this movement, which is referred to as The Third Wave of the Holy Spirit or the New Apostolic Reformation. The movement is training a young "Joel's Army" to take dominion over the United States and the world. . .

The Wasilla Assembly of God church is deeply involved with both Third Wave activities and theology. . . The pastor, Ed Kalnins, and Masters Commission students have traveled to South Carolina to participate in a "prophetic conference" at Morningstar Ministries, one of the major ministries of the Third Wave movement. Becky Fischer was a pastor at Morningstar prior to being featured in the movie "Jesus Camp." . . .

The Third Wave is a revival of the theology of the Latter Rain tent revivals of the 1950s and 1960s led by William Branham and others. It is based on the idea that in the end times there will be an outpouring of supernatural powers on a group of Christians that will take authority over the existing church and the world. The believing Christians of the world will be reorganized under the Fivefold Ministry and the church restructured under the authority of Prophets and Apostles and others anointed by God. The young generation will form "Joel's Army" to rise up and battle evil and retake the earth for God.

While segments of this belief system have been a part of Pentecostalism and charismatic beliefs for decades, the excesses of this movement were declared a heresy in 1949 by the General Council of the Assemblies of God, and again condemned through Resolution 16 in 2000. . .

The Third Wave, also known as the New Apostolic Reformation, is a network of Apostles, many of them grouped around C. Peter Wagner, founder of the World Prayer Center. This center, which was built in coordination with Ted Haggard and his New Life Church in Colorado Springs, was featured in an article by Jeff Sharlet in Harpers, May 2005, "Soldiers of Christ." Sharlet was one of the first to write in the secular press about the World Prayer Center which is often referred to by those familiar with the Third Wave as the 'Pentagon for Spiritual Warfare.' It features computer systems that store the data of communities around the world, mapping out unsaved peoples' groups and spiritual mapping information for spiritual warfare. . .

Wagner's top leaders often conduct spiritual warfare campaigns against the demons that block the acceptance of their brand of Christian belief, such as 'Operation Ice Castle' in the Himalayas in 1997. Several of their top prophets and generals of intercession spent weeks in intensive prayer to "confront the Queen of Heaven." This queen is considered by them to be one of the most powerful demons over the earth and is the Great Harlot of Mystery Babylon in Revelation. (The "Great Harlot [or 'whore'] of Mystery Babylon" theme also figures prominently in the sermons of Texas megachurch pastor and Christians United For Israel founder John Hagee, former endorser of John McCain's 2008 presidential bid.) . . .

The Third Wave movement is cross-denomination and is not synonymous with any specific denomination, nor is it synonymous with Evangelical or Fundamentalist. Although the movement emerged from Pentecostalism, it draws its support from a variety of denominations and religious streams. They believe they are forming a post-denominational church to take the world for the end times. To date, all of the writing and objections to this movement have emerged from other Evangelicals and Fundamentalists who believe the movement to be unbiblical. Also, it is other conservative churches that refuse to embrace the 'outpouring of the Spirit' that are targets of much of the anger of the movement.

I was tired yesterday, and not clear on my position. I think this woman has too much on her plate, first of all. She has a special needs child that will require a lot of care, plus four others. She has demonstrated an inability to run her own family, in my opinion. How will she be able to help run our country? I have teens, I know how difficult it can be to help them make good choices. We all make mistakes in that area. I would never willingly place anything before my job as a parent.
I would vote republican if I thought that the candidate was the best choice. I don't think that this time. At this time I would not vote a republican in no matter what. I am tired of the war, the economy and the helplessness that a lot of us feel. It is time for a change.
I only made the comments about Palin's family being financed by the American people because a lot of people on these forums like to throw the bible quotes around. There seems to be a lot of "moral" experts here. If Palin was gay you all would be saying negative things. The tax payers' dollars sure came into play on the issue of gay marriage. Well, the tax payers' money will also be used to finance this grandbaby of Palin's. I was wondering where your moral high horse is now?

This article never stated that Sarah Palin was a member of the AIP...
to distract the attention of readers from the fact that she "courted" so the readers will dismiss the issue entirely, very clever!!!.

Nonetheless this legitimate article pointed out that she courted the party and that her husband was a member for seven years!!!

Now that we have some potential dirt on Palin, will we get to know something about:

Obama's business and personal relationship with convict Tony Rezco?

Obama's business and personal relationship with admitted criminal William Ayers?

... could we start with that?

Annie,

Please don't try to box "republican" into one clear-cut definition. The fact is that many independents and moderates of BOTH parties are going for McCain this year because HE is the real change, not so much his party! Many will vote democrat locally, but vote for the most experienced leadership nationally.

I am tired of the war, the economy and the helplessness that a lot of us feel.

1) War: We were attacked. What should we do? Do we need police to protect us? Do we need the military? War is a part of life, we have to try to remain strong. McCain's view was-- send in backups and get it over with. Obama was-- leave and hope it all goes away. This is the printed response from Iran and others, that America is "too spoiled to fight". We were judged to be weak, like during Jimmy Carter's Iranian Hostage Crisis.

2) Economy: Democratic Congress controls the nations purse. Under Clinton, it was a Republican Congress. Look at the outcome! We as taxpayers need to form a resolution: mine is to STOP spending and STOP DEBT! A household can't run that way, nor should a nation. Obama wants to INCREASE spending, but who pays? McCain has a history of saying "NO". Yes it hurts, but we need to place COUNTRY FIRST-- and think long term for the benefit of stability and long-term debt.

4444
...
written by Thinker , September 15, 2008
3) Helplessness: Take it one issue at a time: what is the most impotant to you? ENERGY DEPENDENCE? Should we continue to transfer our money to those who are financing terror, thus having to spend MORE MONEY to fight them? Again, think long term. Imagine it is your household budget. Do you want to keep going to loan sharks or cash advances? Let's STOP this pattern!

McCain wants to do EVERYTHING possible in reagards to energy production... with a CLEAR MANDATE to STOP importing oil. Clear choice to me, doesn't matter whose party he is in. He already said he would appoint democrats to his cabinet and be bipartisian. THAT is change! THAT is what is wrong with American Politics! Politicians stay with their party, and not vote the issue!

Obama picked an entrenched party machine (Biden). Is that "change"?

Dale,
Isn't it amazing how Margy (what I'm reading-this person copied and pasted same thing like 3 times now) seems to simply prove that Palin also wants independent votes? Works outside her party? Isn't that the CHANGE we need with our current do-nothing political system?

Yet, as you mention, there are LOADS of things to bring up about Obama that have NOTHING to do about CHANGE> unless his admission of cocaine use is the type of change in leadership we need?

I'm not knocking the mistakes of youth, but in a smear campaign I am wondering why the leftist media has not locked on this?
"Junkie. Pothead. That's where I'd been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man. . . . I got high [to] push questions of who I was out of my mind."

Dear Editor, Illegal drug use is not OK period! If Barak Obama thinks he setting a good example by his writings detailing his illegal drug use he is wrong. While Americans struggle to keep their children safe and drug free in an environment that glorifies rock stars and celebs who abuse illegal drugs, all we need is a politician who does the same. Our leaders should at least obey the laws they impose on the rest of us if they expect serious consideration for office. Sincerely, Jeffery B. West
(source cited above link).

Does this mean its OK to try cocaine when youre young because you are not thinking right? Why dont you talk about the consequences of the cocaine and would you call yourself an addict in cocaine at that time? If you were, how did you manage to stop cocaine? Where did you get your money to buy cocaine. That must be an expensive stuff.

Obamas admission of cocaine use will destroy him in the general election. Bozos like Chris Matthews think it sends a good message: its okay to use cocaine and other drugs when youre in school as long as you quit when you get out of school. Using Cocaine isnt like smoking pot, its a felony, like breaking and entering. If I brag about breaking into homes, even though its a felony, its okay as long I quit after I get out of school. Give me a break, you elite, whiney democrats, the Republicans will phone in the victory if their man Obama is nominated.By Vangogh1

If his denials about using heroin are correct, Then why does he call himself a junkie in his book? Potheads are never called junkies.By dawndci

Yes, this all goes to smear. Isn't this what Margy and Sharon are doing? They are supporting a self-admitted felon to the white house. I thought you can't vote if you have a felony? What's the statute of limitations on this sort of felony? Darn! Never-the-less, he knew this would be dug up...smart to disclose it. Yet, shows another example of bad choices. HE has made many, yet has not made ANY good choices or passed any laws. This is all about "Him", not "US".

Well guess what? The Dumbocrats are jumping all over that interview to show how "misleading" the Republicans have been although Rove made the comment about BOTH campaigns. Sounds the same as them knocking Palin when their candidate has even less experience.

The woman has too much on her plate? So you, as a female, perpetuates the idea that a woman cannot have a family and a job as well! If McCain had appointed a man with 5 children, one of them being a special needs child, this discussion would not be taking place. No one ever stops to ask whether a father has too much on his plate to be President or VP, and still be a good dad. What a farce.

Sarah Palin and AIP
First some memorable quotes from AIP founder Joe Vogler:
The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

"hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."
The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government,"
"And I won't be buried under their damn flag,"
"I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

Sarah Palin's ties to Alaskan Independence Party are played down
The McCain campaign denies his running mate supports the party's separatist bent.
By Michael Finnegan, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
September 3, 2008
Tonight, Sarah Palin will be nominated as the Republican Party's choice for vice president of the United States.

But back home, she has cheered the work of a tiny party that long has pushed for a statewide vote on whether Alaska should secede from those same United States. And her husband, Todd, was a member of the party for seven years.

Keep up the good work," Sarah Palin told members of the Alaskan Independence Party in a videotaped speech to their convention six months ago in Fairbanks. She wished the party luck on what she called its "inspiring convention."

The Alaskan Independence Party, founded in 1978, initially promoted "the Alaskan independence movement." But now, according to its website, "its primary goal is merely a vote on secession
For all but two months from 1995 to 2002, the governor's husband was registered as an Alaskan Independence Party member, according to the Alaska Division of Elections.

With McCain's campaign emphasizing patriotism -- his latest slogan is "Country First" -- the Palins' links to a party founded by the late secessionist gold miner Joe Vogler could prove awkward.

"I'm an Alaskan, not an American," Vogler is quoted as saying elsewhere on the party’s website. "I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

The party supports a plebiscite on four options that it says Alaskans were entitled to vote on before becoming a state in 1959: Form a sovereign nation of their own, become a state, accept commonwealth status similar to Puerto Rico's, or remain a U.S. territory.

"

He's running for President? ms. margy, you've been a naughty girl again.

The AP reported:

"Your party plays an important role in our state's politics," she [Palin] said in the video, which is posted on the party's Web site. "I've always said that competition is so good, and that applies to political parties as well."

Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, told ABC News that Palin and her husband, Todd, belonged to the party in 1994. Mark Chryson, chairman of the Independence Party from 1995 to 2002, told the network that Palin attended the party's convention in 1994. He said he was not certain if she was a party member, and party records do not date back that far

Dexter Clark, an Alaskan Independence Party vice chairman, brought up Palin's ties to the group in videotaped remarks to the second North American Secessionist Convention in October in Chattanooga, Tenn.

"She was an AIP member before she got the job as the mayor of a small town," Clark told the group. "That was a nonpartisan job. But you get along to go along. She eventually joined the Republican Party."

The Alaska Division of Elections confirmed that Palin had been registered as a Republican since 1982.

Less than 3% of the state's 479,721 registered voters are members of the party.

Mrs. Palin's position has turned into a that of a lightning rod. Hot.

There being only so much information a human can process at one time...
the more time you spend on candidate Palin means less time for Obama's ideas.

Sarah Palin and Creationism!!!! Common seperation of church and state!
McCain's VP Wants Creationism Taught in School
By Brandon Keim August 29, 2008 | 12:57:43 PMCategories: 2008 Presidential Election, Evolution, Religion

Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin wants creationism taught in science classes.

In a 2006 gubernatorial debate, the soon-to-be governor of Alaska said of evolution and creation education, "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of education. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both."

(Read about Palin's views on ANWAR and polar bears on our sister blog, Threat Level.)

Asked by the Anchorage Daily News whether she believed in evolution, Palin declined to answer, but said that "I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class."

"I'm not going to pretend I know how all this came to be," she said.

The battle between evolution and creationism -- specifically, Christian creationism -- in U.S. classrooms dates back to the 1925 Scopes trial, when a Tennessee court banned the teaching of evolution. Since then, state and federal courts have repeatedly rejected so-called creation science in public schools, calling it religion rather than science.

The latest courtroom defeat came in the 2005 Kitzmiller v. Dover case, when the superficially religion-neutral theory of intelligent design was classified as religious creationism. The Supreme Court ruled in 1987 that teaching creationism violated the separation of church and state.
