Raiders, Buccs win on the road

 


 

Tracy Raiders
The Tracy Raiders won three of their games Saturday in the season-opening weekend on the road against the Dublin Falcons. The junior novice team does not keep score, but does keep statistics on players. The Raiders next play the South Stockton Vikings on Sunday at Tracy High.

Junior Novice
Marcellous Starling led the Raiders’ offense with 146 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns. Skylar Drymon ran for 100 yards on seven carries with a touchdown, Jared Bailey ran 95 yards on three carries for two touchdowns. Jordan Troche rushed for 64 yards on four carries and also had two receptions, including a touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Wallwork, who completed two of four passes for the day. Jalen Smith rounded out the offense with one carry for 45 yards.

The Raider defense held the Falcons to 60 yards and allowed no completed passes. Jacob Peebles had eight tackles and one assist; Eric Williams had five tackles, one assist and defended a pass; Darian Burks had four tackles, three assists and one sack to force a fumble; and Sammo Blackwell had four tackles, two assists and a fumble recovery.

Novice: Raiders 35, Falcons 0
Jake Seratto scored for the Raiders with a fumble recovery in the end zone, followed by a point-after run from Kharyem Watson. Watson scored again on a 30-yard pass from Michael Brown, and Demari Taylor scored on the PAT run. Taylor made the third score on a 2-yard run, with the PAT on a pass from Brown to Marcel Dancy. Taylor then ran the ball back 70 yards on a kickoff return for another touchdown, with a PAT run from Joshua Perez. Taylor scored again on a 5-yard run, with a PAT run from Dancy.

Brown completed 5 of 10 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown. Taylor also carried the ball 11 times for 58 yards and two touchdowns; Watson made three catches for 50 yards and one touchdown; Christian Schwartz recovered two fumbles on defense; and the leading tacklers were Jacob Taloa, Ryan King, Trent Cox and Bryan Eaton.

Junior varsity: Raiders 20, Falcons 6
The Raiders scored on a 30-yard run by Anthony Talaugon, followed by a 3-yard conversion by C.J. Butcher for the extra point. Butcher scored again with a fumble recovery in the end zone, with the extra point catch by Damon Stroup. Talaugon scored again for the Raiders on a 50-yard rush — he totaled 90 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.

Dylan Davis ran for 40 yards on four carries; Jayon Wilson ran 30 yards on four carries; and Butcher ran 23 yards on five carries. Quarterback Brett Curtis was 2-for-9 for 18 yards and an extra-point pass. Receiver Dustin Dibble caught a pass for 15 yards.

On defense, Butcher had four tackles and two fumble recoveries; Anthony Talaugon had three tackles and a sack; and Derritt Scarver and Adam Rodriguez each had a sack.

Varsity: Raiders 20, Falcons 6
The Raiders scored on a 35-yard run from Nikko Martinez, who carried the ball 11 times for 96 yards Saturday. Daniel Perez got away on a 62-yard run for the Raiders’ second touchdown. He ran a total of 113 yards on eight carries.

Quarterback Luke Hanna found Perez for a 63-yard touchdown pass for the third score of the day. It was one of two catches for Perez, for a total of 83 yards. Hanna completed 4 of 10 passes on the day for 117 yards, including two to Israel Zamora for 34 yards. 

On defense, Eddye Lopez had six tackles, and Zamora had five tackles and two sacks.

Tracy Buccaneers
The Tracy Buccaneers won all four divisions Saturday against the Brentwood Patriots West at Heritage High School. All four teams are 4-0. The Buccs have their first home game Saturday against the Delta Patriots East, with games at 1, 3, 5, and 7 p.m. at Tracy High School.

Starts: Buccs 8, Patriots 6
The Buccs defeated the State Bowl Champions in a defensive battle. Garren Harris led the defense with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery; Myles Walker had seven tackles; Ethan Casados made five tackles; and Mitchell DaRosa made four tackles. DaRosa also deflected three passes and made an interception.

Josh Alvarado led on offense with 53 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown. Jake Dunniway covered 28 yards on 12 carries.

Rookies: Buccs 25, Patriots 0
The Patriots were looking to avenge a 19-14 loss to the Buccs in last year’s State Bowl but came up against offensive linemen Omar Corral, Clayton Borges, Jake Rebar, Chandlyr Metal and Cameron Bacchetti.

Isaiah Floyd ran for 21 yards on eight carries and scored one touchdown behind the group; Jake Alvarado covered 77 yards on six carries with two touchdowns; and Justin Mills ran for 77 yards on seven carries with one touchdown.

Alvarado also threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Robbie Ramirez.

Leading defender Isaiah Floyd had 13 tackles; followed by Nick Medina with 10 tackles; Myles Cunningham and Andre Fetui with eight each; and Andrew Maroulas, Ramirez and Mills with seven tackles each.

JV: Buccs 16, Patriots 0
The Buccs held the Delta Patriots scoreless as TaVonee Johnson led the Buccs’ offense with 68 yards on two carries, including a 64-yard touchdown run. Luke Pulliam ran for 50 yards on 10 carries, and Anthony Nunez completed two 2-point conversions by kicking two PATs.
Gabe Miller led the defense with eight tackles, followed by Eric Hawkins with six tackles and TaVonee with five.

Varsity: Buccs 18, Patriots 14
Xavier Brooks covered 167 yards on 15 carries, including two touchdowns. Raj Kumar threw a touchdown pass to Dario Valadez, and ran 26 yards on five carries.
Brooks led the defense with eight tackles, followed by Kumar with five tackles and a sack, and Bruce Russell with four.

Tracy Cougars
The Tracy Cougars traveled to Stagg High School in Stockton to face the Stockton Bears on Saturday. The Cougars will be on the road again this weekend when they go to McNair High in Stockton to play the Stockton Bengals.

Junior Novice
Phabian Portillo led the defense with seven tackles and two forced fumbles, and Jared Alford had five tackles. Joseph Figueroa, Robert McIntosh and Mason Sarsfield each contributed three tackles and two forced fumbles, while Justin West had three tackles. Aaron Brown forced a fumble recovery.

Quarterback Joseph Saenz went 3-for-4 passing for 63 yards and one touchdown, and ran the ball five times for 38 yards. Cameron Bustos had four catches for 66 yards, including a touchdown reception. Quarterback Rory Hanson went 1-for-2 for 3 yards. Running back Devon Roberts had six carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns; Jorden Harvey covered 63 yards on seven carries for 63 yards; Phabian Portillo ran 10 yards on three carries and scored a touchdown; Maximus Hanmore had three carries for 18 yards; and Shamar Jeffers had two carries for 6 yards.

Other Cougar scores were not available at press time.
