Great cartoon.

... a Rasmussen survey released yesterday found that 51 percent of Americans believe she is being unfairly attacked by the media...

Oh heck no, though some Obama things didn't quite manage to make a headline.
Because of the media:

I know more about 17 year old Bristol Palin than
Obama's mom in the same position at the same point in her life.

I know more about Todd Palin's 22 year old DUI than
Obama's marijuana, cocaine and alcohol issues.

I know more about McCain voting with Bush 90-95% of the time than
Obama voting present 129 times over 8 years in Illinois and 97% democrat in the Senate.

I know more about Sarah Palin's experience as a mayor in a town of 9,000 than
Obama's relationships with the Reverend Wright, Tony Rezco, Bill Ayers, Kwame Kilpatrick...

and last because I'm tired

I know more about Obama's Presidential experience because of his time spent campaigning than
Sarah Palin's experience as Governor.

If Obama/Biden doesn't win, it's because of racists not voting for him
though if McCain/Palin doesn't win it's because... they made more mistakes.

Will 2 time failed Presidential candidate Biden be using his life stories this time?

Maybe Saracuda can teach O'Biden to man up...

Dale and Steve,

I enjoy reading your blogs. You both always hit the nail on the head. To add to your comments would just place to much verbage to your points well-made!

I must add how it is obvious Nobama picked Biden because obama wants to be "in" with the "good ole boys" political insiders. Biden is the epitomy of what is wrong with Washington. Why would a "change" agent pick someone who for years has done nothing but voted democratis party. Where's the leadership? Washington gets NOTHING done because of Biden type of partianship.

Also, why blame Bush for the economy? I thought that Democratic COngress is charged with making a budget and approving expenditures, while Bush has veto power. I say get them all out of there--- this Congress has the historic low rating ever. We are sick of career politicians (esp partisian) and Obama picks one for his VP. His "me first" self-righteous atitude, self-annoited "I Am the One" is so anti-Christ! Why can't we pick someone who cares more about what's RIGHT for our COUNTRY versus what's right for the politician!

Daily Show achieved true brilliance this week with their showcasing of how remarkably hypocritical Right Wing pundits are concerning Palin. The hint that Rove is two-faced under-appreciates just how vile and stupid the Right has become. But, in case you missed it, you can catch it here:

To the guy that said McCain is ahead by 10 pts... that was only one poll. All other polls show a pretty tight race still with McCain being ahead barely. The average actually shows it is under 2% which is well within most sampling errors. I would say still that the convention did give the McCain camp some boosts that it was looking for but still there are a LOT of politics to be played till November

McCain had criticized earmarks from Palin
Three times in recent years, the Arizona senator's lists of 'objectionable' pork spending have included earmarks requested by his new running mate.
From: Los angeles Times

WASILLA, ALASKA -- For much of his long career in Washington, John McCain has been throwing darts at the special spending system known as earmarking, through which powerful members of Congress can deliver federal cash for pet projects back home with little or no public scrutiny. He's even gone so far as to publish "pork lists" detailing these financial favors.

Three times in recent years, McCain's catalogs of "objectionable" spending have included earmarks for this small Alaska town, requested by its mayor at the time -- Sarah Palin

...
written by margy , September 08, 2008
Now, McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee, has chosen Palin as his running mate, touting her as a reformer just like him.

McCain has made opposition to pork-barrel spending a central theme of his 2008 campaign. "Earmarking deprives federal agencies of scarce resources, at the whim of individual members of Congress," McCain has said.

But records show that Palin -- first as mayor of Wasilla and recently as governor of Alaska -- was far from shy about pursuing tens of millions in earmarks for her town, her region and her state.

4959
...
written by margy , September 08, 2008
This year, Palin, who has been governor for nearly 22 months, defended earmarking as a vital part of the legislative system. "The federal budget, in its various manifestations, is incredibly important to us, and congressional earmarks are one aspect of this relationship," she wrote in a newspaper column.

In 2001, McCain's list of spending that had been approved without the normal budget scrutiny included a $500,000 earmark for a public transportation project in Wasilla. The Arizona senator targeted $1 million in a 2002 spending bill for an emergency communications center in town -- one that local law enforcement has said is redundant and creates confusion.
4959
...
written by margy , September 08, 2008
McCain also criticized $450,000 set aside for an agricultural processing facility in Wasilla that was requested during Palin's tenure as mayor and cleared Congress soon after she left office in 2002. The funding was provided to help direct locally grown produce to schools, prisons and other government institutions, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group.

Wasilla received $11.9 million in earmarks from 2000 to 2003. The results of this spending are very apparent today. (The town also benefited from $15 million in federal funds to promote regional rail transportation.)

4959
...
written by margy , September 08, 2008
Wasilla had received few if any earmarks before Palin became mayor. She actively sought federal funds -- a campaign that began to pay off only after she hired a lobbyist with close ties to Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), who long controlled federal spending as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He made funneling money to Alaska his hallmark.

Steven Silver was a former chief of staff for Stevens. After he was hired, Wasilla obtained funding for several projects in 2002, including an additional $600,000 in transportation funding.

That year, a local water and sewer project received $1.5 million, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, which combs federal spending measures to identify projects inserted by congressional members.

When Palin spoke after McCain introduced her as his running mate at a rally in Ohio last week, she made fun of earmarking. She said she had rejected $223 million in federal funds for a bridge linking Ketchikan to an island with an airport and 50 residents, referring to it by its derogatory label: the "bridge to nowhere.
4959
...
written by margy , September 08, 2008
In the nationally televised speech, she stood by McCain and said, "I've championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. In fact, I told Congress thanks, but no thanks, on that bridge to nowhere. If our state wanted a bridge, I said, we'd build it ourselves."

However, as a candidate for governor in 2006, Palin had backed funding for the bridge. After her election, she killed the much-ridiculed project when it became clear the state had other priorities. She said she would use the federal funds to fill those needs.

This year she submitted to Congress a list of Alaska projects worth $197.8 million, including $2 million to research crab productivity in the Bering Sea and $7.4 million to improve runway lighting at eight Alaska airports. A spokesman said she cut the original list of 54 projects to 31.

"So while Sen. McCain was going after cutting earmarks in Washington," said Steve Ellis of Taxpayers for Common Sense, "Gov. Palin was going after getting earmarks."

margy,

Though Gov. Palin originally supported the earmark spending on the Ketchikan bridge (“to nowhere), she eventually killed the project, chosing to spend Federal money on other infrasturcture programs.

However, Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama voted for funding the Bridge, even when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.

The Post today enthusiastically urges the election of Sen. John S. McCain as the 44th president of the United States," the editorial read. "McCain's lifelong record of service to America, his battle-tested courage, unshakeable devotion to principle and clear grasp of the dangers and opportunities now facing the nation stand in dramatic contrast to the tissue-paper-thin resume of his Democratic opponent, freshman Sen. "The Alaska Democratic Party - certainly no fan of Sarah Palin - has weighed
in on this issue. An anti-Ted Stevens website run by the Alaska Democratic
Party says "Ted Earmarked Funds for Bridge that Goes Nowhere" and the "State
of Alaska killed bridge". They go further to credit Governor Palin for
killing the Bridge to Nowhere. The site states: "She said it was clear
Congress had little interest in spending any more money for it and that the
state had higher priorities." (emphasis added) "

too funny...

Michelle Obama, wife of Barack Obama, spoke at two fund raisers in front of heavily entertainment industry crowds on Wednesday night.

Approximately 300 donors attended the fund raiser, which took place in the wealthy, Los Angeles neighborhood of Holmby Hills...

Obama then moved on to politics, where she first brought up her husband’s vice-presidential choice.
“I think it was a really good pick—Senator Joe Biden,” she said, and later added,
“People say they have amazing chemistry, and it’s true.”

Obama continued with talk about Biden when she said, “What you learn about Barack from his choice is that he’s not afraid of smart people.” The crowd softly chuckled.

Obama then spoke about the time she first went on a date with Barack and
instantly saw his “specialness.”

She told the crowd,
“All I’ve been trying to say the past nine months is that Barack has a gift,
and he’s willing to share it.”

It's interesting to see how it is noted how much the media is "liberal" and is put a spin to this Gingrich-a la Rovian tactics of coding language. When earlier this year there was a lot of stories from the corporate conservative media discussing about
whether or not Obama was a patriot and his "America hate".
So for those who think there is no such thing as a corporate and conservative bias in media I want to share a story about Sarah Palin and her connections with "America hate" that has been completely blacked out by the corporate media and probably will not be brought up because of the bias in the media.

Founder Of Group Palin Courted Professed "Hatred For The American Government"; Cursed "Damn Flag"
By Greg Sargent - September 2, 2008, 6:10PM
The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."

4959
...
written by margy , September 09, 2008
The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

"And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

4959
...
written by margy , September 09, 2008
At another point, Volger advocated renouncing allegiance to the United States. In the course of denouncing Federal regulation over land, he said:

"And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska."

You can listen to audio of the relevant section of the Volger interview here. Bill Schneider, curator of oral history at the library, verified the authenticity of the interview and the quote to me a few moments ago.

Palin has courted the group over the years.

Three years after the controversial interview, in 1994, Palin attended the group's annual convention, according to witnesses who spoke to ABC News' Jake Tapper. The McCain campaign is disputing her presence there, but Tapper found two people to attest to it.

4959
...
written by margy , September 09, 2008
The McCain campaign today produced Palin's voting registration records, and said they proved she was never a member of the party.

But she has repeatedly reached out to the group. The McCain campaign has confirmed she visited the group's 2000 convention, and she addressed its convention this year, as an incumbent governor whose oath of office includes upholding the Constitution of the United States.

Palin's husband, Todd Palin, was a member of the party from 1995-2002 with a brief exception in 2000.

It's worth noting that Vogler isn't just some figure from ancient history. He is still being hailed on AIP's site this year, the same year Palin addressed the group's convention.

It's worth pondering how big a deal it would be if Obama had ever courted the support of a group whose head had said this kind of thing about America and her flag.
4959
...
written by margy , September 09, 2008
I would agree that the media presents what "sells". They are not in the interest of providing the public with information but a product the public buys. But to say that the media is "liberal" is ridiculous because if it was so the media would have been all over the story about Palin's connection with "America hatism".
