No farmers market
Tracy’s farmers market will be canceled today because of the Tracy Dry Bean Festival, which continues through Sunday.

Writing workshop
Author Linda Weaver Clarke will lead a writing workshop to teach people to pen a vivid family history. She’ll speak at 6 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Tracy Branch Library, 20 E. Eaton Ave.

She is also set to talk about life as an author and how to research at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Mountain House Branch Library, 579 Wicklund Crossing, in Mountain House.

Republican women fundraiser
Tracy Republican Women will host a wine-tasting get-together to raise money for Assembly candidate Jack Mobley, R-Merced, at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Windmill Ridge Winery, 8350 W. Linne Road.

Assemblyman Leader Mike Villines, R-Clovis, and Assemblyman Tom Berryhill, R-Modesto, are also set to speak at the event.

United Way luncheon
Charitable nonprofit United Way will have its eighth annual luncheon from 10:30 a.m. through mid-afternoon Oct. 21 at the Stockton Civic Auditorium, 525 N. Center St., in Stockton. Speaker Barbara Tognoli will talk about “women making a difference.”

Tickets are $25 each and table sponsorships cost $300.

Animal rescue showcase
Delta Paws Animal Rescue will showcase animals for the fall “adoptathon” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14 at PetsMart, 2477 Naglee Road.

Cats, dogs and a bunny or two will be available for adoption.

Drive-through dinner fundraiser
Delta Paws Animal Rescue will sell $11 take-home meals from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 in PetsMart’s parking lot, 2477 Naglee Road.

Dinners include ribs, chicken and side dishes and will be cooked up by Texas Roadhouse restaurant, 2422 Naglee Road.

Obama campaign meeting
Grassroots volunteers will meet to talk about how to get involved in Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign.

The meeting, led by Tracy Democratic delegate Lea Austin, will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Austin’s house, 165 Victoria St.

Church celebrates 75 years
Tracy Community Church will have a celebration service to mark their 75th anniversary at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 at the church, 1790 Sequoia Blvd.

Senior citizen driving class
The city and the American Association of Retired Persons will host the first of a two-part, four-hour driving class for senior citizens from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 4 at the Lolly Hansen Senior Center, 375 E. Ninth St.

It costs $10 to attend and the second part in the series will be held also from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 11.

The city will host a back-to-school themed dance for mentally and physically disabled adults from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Lolly Hansen Senior Center, 375 E. Ninth St.

Laura Scudders reunion picnic
Former employees from the defunct Laura Scudders factory will get together for their annual picnic reunion at noon Sept. 13 in Lincoln Park, at the corner of Eaton Avenue and Holly Drive. Guests should bring potluck dishes, drinks and chairs.
