Tracy Futbol Clubs 11-and-under boys Tracy Crossfire traveled to Sacramento this past weekend to play in the 2008 California Rush Open Tournament, hosted by the California Rush Soccer Club at the Cherry Island Soccer Complex.
The Crossfire had just come off a championship two weeks prior and repeated their success, scoring 16 goals and holding opponents scoreless.
On Saturday morning, Crossfire beat the Davis Legacy Fury, 2-0, and in the second game Saturday afternoon beat the Placer United Crossfire, 9-0.
On Sunday, the Crossfire took a 4-0 win over Cal Rush Nike 98. Crossfire went into the championship game against AC Milan Premier with more goals in the tournament than any other team in their age group. Milan proved to be the toughest opponents in the tournament, and the game went scoreless until the final two minutes, when Crossfire scored to make it a 1-0 win. In their past two tournaments, the Crossfire has played eight games, brought home two championships, scored 32 goals and allowed only one goal.
The Pumas won their first game 6-2 against Elk Grove Everton as Jenna Zuniga and Leyla Pepic each scored two goals. Jocelyn Reyes and Jasmine Loaiza also contributed goals and Airyana Verdugo contributed on offense.
The Pumas won by forfeit in their second game against the Cheetahs, and went on to play the Flames United FC out of Stockton. The teams tied 4-4 a month ago in a scrimmage, but this time the Pumas defeated the Flames, 5-0. Again, Zuniga and Pepic each scored two goals, and Reyes hit another one in. Defenders Cindy Alvarez and Yolanda Taveres and midfielder Faith Chavez shut down the Flames’ strong offense.
In the finals, the Junior Pumas took on Modesto Ajax and came away with a 5-0 win. Pepic scored three goals, and Zuniga scored another two goals. Alexa Mayen played solid midfield, and goalie Marcella Salyer stopped numerous shots.
The Junior Pumas now prepare for league play and the Battle by the Bay tournament, hosted by Alliance Futbol Club, at the end of the month in Union City. • Report scores at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
