Events, charity drives and gatherings in Tracy and Mountain House. Teen dance
Tracy’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a dance for middle school students from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Tracy Community Center, 950 Appropriate dress and behavior are required, as is school identification. Health fair The Fun, Fit and Healthy Fair, put on for free to the public by Sutter Tracy Healthy Connections Resource Center, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital, 1420 N. Tracy Blvd. Certified wellness coaches will lead various workshops about nutrition, exercise and other health-related topics. The Tracy Fire Department will also organize a fitness challenge, and a variety of hospital departments will have their own stations, including the dietary department, which will cook up fresh food for fairgoers. DVI meeting The Deuel Vocational Institution Citizen’s Advisory Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 on the prison grounds, 23500 Kasson Road, in the In-Service Training Building. Tolbert campaign forum Tracy mayoral candidate and Councilwoman Evelyn Tolbert will host a meeting to take questions from the public and talk about why she’s running for mayor. The meeting will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 11 and take place in Tolbert’s neighborhood at the Redbridge House, 2935 Redbridge Road. Maciel town hall meeting Retired police captain and Tracy City Council candidate Mike Maciel will host a series of town hall meetings beginning at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Redbridge House, 2935 Redbridge Road. The subsequent meetings will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Green Oaks Mobile Home Park clubhouse; 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Hidden Lake clubhouse; and at 2 p.m. Oct. 23 at Heritage Place. Banta Hay Day Banta Elementary School, through the parent-faculty association, will host its only annual fundraiser, Banta Hay Day, from 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 11 on school grounds, 22345 El Rancho Road, in Banta. Proceeds will go to the school’s computer and library media center as well as the math, science and reading curriculum. Extra money could pay for student field trips, playground equipment and sports equipment and uniforms. Discount wine stroll glasses The Downtown Business Improvement Association will sell wine glasses for the upcoming Downtown Tracy Wine Stroll on Oct. 3 at a discounted price during the Tracy Dry Bean Festival this weekend. Vouchers for the glasses will be sold for $15 at the wine pavilion on 10th and B streets on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Regular price wine glasses will be $20 the day of the stroll. Scholarship contest The Voice of Democracy scholarship contest seeks high school students to compete for the annual scholarship put on by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1537 and Ladies Auxiliary. Youth essay contest The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1537 and Ladies Auxiliary seek middle school students to submit entries for an essay contest, whose theme this year is "Why America’s veterans should be honored." Essays must be between 300 and 400 words and typed. Patriotic art contest The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1537 is sponsoring its annual Creative Patriotic Art Contest for the 2008-09 school year, open to all high school students.
