Temperatures in Tracy and Mountain House climbed to the mid-90s today, and a strong breeze helped folks beat the heat as the mini heat wave eased through the area.

Jim Lamb,

errr... Tracy has a park with a water fountain.

Also, InShape City has a Water Fountain at the pool.

And MH'rs use the Tracy Mall???

Are you saying because Mountain House only has one water fountain...

Oh never mind...

But, was that one of those "nasty comments"???

Where is the water fountain? It's not the mister at Hoyt is it? That's not a water fountain.

Many cities have these type of water play areas in their parks or city centers. Besides Mountain House, Stockton, Livermore and San Ramon have great ones. That was a topic of discussion to have one put in downtown as part of the downtown revitalization. What about that area on the northeast corner of 6th and central? A great way to attract people to downtown in addition to the work starting now.

The idea of putting a park across Central from El Castillo (and Magellans) is a great idea.

If you want another water fountain in Tracy Parks Put one at the Holly Sports Park.

I also have third idea for a water fountain. The DMV is going to move and would be a great location for a park (with a water fountain). When the DMV moves - put in a park there too.

But if you want to revitalize the downtown you will need more than parks and restaurants.

Otherwise people would be flocking to the Library. Lincoln Park is one of the best parks in Tracy.

Do you enjoy tea at happy hour? Then why are they not swimming in customers?

We need an anchor or two for downtown. A big name anchor. Many people I talk to don't even know where downtown is. That seems crazy to me, but they don't. They just commute and go home. Do their shopping at Stoneridge Mall and hit Trader Joes and/or Whole Foods on their way home.

Also, get this so called business park up and going. Attract businesses away with lower leases from the bay area and tri-valley. When Pleasanton built Hacienda Business Park everyone thought they were crazy. Look at it now. Same with their downtown. BEAUTIFUL. We need more jobs here and less commuters. When we start to turn that around is when we will see a great improvement in the downtown.

It's not just the mall there are plenty of places to eat at the mall. Firkin Beaver, Texas Roadkill Cafe, And shopping all around there, Winco is going in, and WalMart is going to expand.

Why are we in a hurry to improve the downtown, anyway? Seems like the economy is in a slump. Why should we spend a lot of money? Curious. What is the rush, all about?

How are you going to attract business with lower leases? Cisco already pulled out of Livermore. And it would have cost them less in Livermore. What's your plan?

I think we already have the start of what could be a great downtown area. I don't always like to go to the mall and big name stores with the masses. The same stores that every city seems to have now. I love to visit the quaint downtowns and think many other people do too. Pleasanton, Danville, Walnut Creek and now Livermore all have their big name stores and then their wonderful downtown areas. Downtowns are just a different and unique atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

Yes the economy is not favorable right now. But it will improve and then we should push forward into making Tracy a destination people want to visit and we can be proud of.

Included would be the Holly Sports Park and Wetlands, the downtown and in the future a new city pool and/or water park. Other cities around us are gonna pass us by with offering some of these ammenities. Then instead of them coming here and spending their $, Tracyites will be going there. Example: Field of Dreams in Manteca. It was offered to Tracy first.

PS There is no rush for the downtown...Nothing is done in a rush around here anyway unless it's a new office for city officials

PS How long have you lived here? For those newer to Tracy it may seem like a "rush" to get some of this done. But for those who have been here and raised kids who will be leaving the nest in the next couple years. I think we have waited to see the city get things done that sould have been done and enjoyed by our families a long time ago.

I see you are anxious about the future, which validates future business base. There is already a base of customers in Tracy. The mall validates that. There is also business in the downtown. I was here when the new city office was built (that you mentioned). They had classes over there and the community took advantadge of that.

I still don't see a solid plan. What's missing is businesses. Not just restaurants. Other cities have restaurants and don't have Measure A, lawsuits, and quite as much obstructionism.

Livermore also depends on the growth of surrounding communities. Cisco is not in Livermore. Oracle is in Pleasanton. Chevron is in San Ramon.

And then there is the economy. If the economy is not in a rush, why do you expect government to outpace, unrealistically?

Yes, on Holly!

It is a sound plan that will provide revenue and is one of the best places to start in this economy.

Cheers!

I bet you if people could vote on Measure A again it would not pass. Can we vote to repeal it? I guess it really would do no good anyway - building more homes without building our attraction for businesses is no good. Yes, we need a solid plan. We have needed a solid plan. I guess you could say I am in a rush as I am tired of waiting. But have to be patient with this economy. One thing at a time....Yep instant gratification...that's me smilies/cheesy.gif

When does the sports park look to break ground?? Go Holly!

I'm thinking the same about Measure A. Building homes and business. How about apartments and Condos in the downtown next to a Transit Station?

Have a look at the apartments next to the park I proposed. It is across Central from El Castillo (and Magellan). Drive through that parking lot.

Now think about that on a larger scale. The South Side will benefit too.

Here is city's info, for Holly.

Interesting doc. Thanks for that. I wonder what it would be like without all the red tape crap we have to go through these days. Study this, do that...takes two years??? I think I would have done better in the "olden" days.

Anyway, love the downtown idea. I have always thought they should do something similar in that location. I watched a city council meeting about 1 or 2 years ago where they discussed this area and I believe they hired a firm (the same one Livermore used) to propose what we should do with that area. They drew up a great plan, I thought. Is that part of what is being done now? Or is that the transit station thing?
