Jason Gilbert is getting used to winner's circle at Altamont Motorsports Park.

Jason Gilbert of Pleasanton claimed his eighth win of the 2008 season in the 100-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Western Late Model division at Altamont Motorsports Park on Saturday.

Matt Scott of Pine Valley won the main event from the Legends of the Pacific series. Sammy Solari of Salida took the win in the American Limited Stockcar race, Todd Lynch of Tracy affirmed his position as points leader in the Grand American Modified feature, and Richard Hull won both 10-lap Formula-4 main events.

In the Western Late Models, Doff Cooksey of Brentwood started at the front of the 28-car field, with Bobby Hodges of Carson City and Justin Philpott of Tracy close behind. Philpott took the lead on Lap 21, but fell back with a mechanical problem.

Gilbert and Gary Glenn of Orangevale moved through the field and threatened to take the lead. The race went caution-free for the second half until Lap 97, when Philpott spun out and left Gilbert, Hodges and Glenn to compete for the lead. Mark Holman of Los Altos came through the crowd and passed Glenn for third. Jace Meier of Las Vegas finished in fifth.

The Legends of the Pacific 30-lap main event saw lots of passing among the scale and spec historic cars on the quarter-mile. Scott took the lead from Dylan Albiani of Modesto on Lap 14, with Jeremy Wood, formerly of Tracy and now living in North Carolina, close behind. Wood took second place at the finish, and Albiani finished third. Fred Clement of Stockton and Mark Blevins of Modesto rounded out the top five.

In the American Limited Stockcar 30-lap main event, Solari made some daring passes to take the lead on the eighth lap. Stockton’s Brian Vosburg and Hayward’s Tim Rappa ran closely behind Solari all the way to the finish. Richard Harper of Stockton claimed fourth, with Chico’s Thomas Vosburg fifth.

Tracy’s Todd Lynch took his third feature event in the Grand American Modifieds in a duel with newcomer A.J. Ryder of Stockton. Todd Lewis of Riverbank and Leroy Hunt of Stockton finished third and fourth, respectively.

Hull swept both 10-lap features on the 1.1-mile road course in the Formula-4 division. He went toe-to-toe with fellow points contender Jake Morgenstern in both main events, while front-runner Bob Wilson lost ground in the standings. Fourth and fifth place went to Jason Edgecomb and Leo Solari.

This coming Saturday, the program will include practice for all Altamont classes, including USAC and Camping World West Series, as they prepare for their big event on Sept. 13. Racing will include two Western Late Models features, as well as Future Champions, Northern California Modified Association sprints and Spectator Racing Series events.
