West High graduate Trevell Quinley missed the cut by 7 centimeters Saturday in the qualifying round of the men's long jump at the Beijing Summer Olympics. Twelve long jumpers qualified for Monday's finals. Quinley was ninth in his group, 18th overall, with a jump of 7.87 meters. His jump was the best among the U.S. jumpers, including Brian Johnson, 7.79, and Miquel Pate, 7.34. The top jump in the preliminary rounds was 8.27 meters by Louis Tsatouma of Greece. He and two others, Ibrahim Camejo of Cuba, 8.23 meters, and Greg Rutherford of Great Britain, 8.16 meters, automatically made the final by clearing the qualifying distance of 8.15 meters. The 12th-place qualifier was Roman Novotny of Czech Republic, with 7.94 meters. For the last two Tracy Press stories about Quinley, go here and here . Trackback(0)
