A 100-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Models race will be the top event Saturday at Altamont Raceway Park on a bill that also includes Legends of the Pacific, American Limited Stock Cars, Grand American Modifieds and Formula-4s.
The Altamont’s “Girls Day at the Track” promotion Saturday will give guests a day of food, drink and shopping, plus chance to view the race from the VIP suite and ride along on the track in Altamont Motorsports Park’s own late-model race cars.
Thirty drivers are signed up so far for the 100-lap feature event, including points leader Jason Gilbert of Pleasanton and contenders Doff Cooksey of Brentwood, Greg Hock of Ione, Carlos Vieira of Merced and Justin Philpott of Tracy.
The Legends of the Pacific make their first Altamont appearance of 2008 on Saturday. The race includes young drivers and race veterans in half-scale cars resembling 1930s Ford coupes and sedans, each powered by an identical Yamaha engine. Nearly 20 cars will race on the quarter-mile track. Tracy’s Todd Lynch leads the open-wheeled Grand American Modified division going into Saturday’s 30-lap event on the half-mile oval. Sammy Solari of Salida has five wins this season in the American Limited Stock Car division leading up to Saturday’s main event.
