Fall lineup set for city races Print E-mail
Written by Tracy Press
Friday, 15 August 2008

The deadline to file for the mayoral and City Council races passed without any surprise entries.

There were no surprises when the filing period closed recently for candidates who want to run for local offices.

Five people — who weeks ago declared they would run for the City Council — are now the official candidates: incumbent council members Steve Abercrombie and Irene Sundberg; neighborhood activist Larry Gamino; home inspector Larry Hite; and retired police Capt. Mike Maciel.

The same is true for the race for mayor. The candidates there are incumbent Mayor Brent Ives; Councilwoman Evelyn Tolbert; and community activist Celeste Garamendi.

City Clerk Sandra Edwards faces no opposition, and neither does Treasurer Ray McCray.

Looking over the candidates running for office, I can now see where the phrase Electile Dysfunction comes into play.

Electile Dysfunction: the inability to become aroused over any of the choices for mayor or city council put forth by either party in this election year. (Abercrombie excluded)

The UP might force some changes on the platforms of all parties involved in this campaign for seat or re-elected?

Proposed location for the Court House may be altered as well, would be interested to know what modifications will be called for.

Good luck voters.

Folks,

We've deleted 47 comments on this story and regret that we didn't immediately delete the posts that accused someone of a crime.

Cheri M.,

Is there anything out there that should make us not believe there was any truth to the comments you deleted? Is the Press working on anything related to those comments?

We're looking, and we'll keep looking, but we've found nothing to substantiate what was posted.
