The deadline to file for the mayoral and City Council races passed without any surprise entries.
There were no surprises when the filing period closed recently for candidates who want to run for local offices.
Five people — who weeks ago declared they would run for the City Council — are now the official candidates: incumbent council members Steve Abercrombie and Irene Sundberg; neighborhood activist Larry Gamino; home inspector Larry Hite; and retired police Capt. Mike Maciel.
The same is true for the race for mayor. The candidates there are incumbent Mayor Brent Ives; Councilwoman Evelyn Tolbert; and community activist Celeste Garamendi.
City Clerk Sandra Edwards faces no opposition, and neither does Treasurer Ray McCray.
