A gas leak this morning caused the fire department to order no one to
leave Monte Vista Middle and McKinley Elementary school campuses, as well as the Boys and Girls Club. Things are back to normal now, though.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co., Tracy firefighters and construction crews examine the damage after the gas was shut off to a severed line on Lowell Avenue near the Boys and Girls Club. Glenn Moore/Tracy Press Crews working to install a city bus stop severed a 2-inch gas line at about 9:30 this morning.
The fire department immediately ordered students not to leave the campuses at the nearby Monte Vista Middle School and McKinley Elementary School, as well as the Boys and Girls Club. A stretch of Lowell Avenue was also closed. By 10:10 a.m., however, restrictions were lifted and things were back to normal at the campuses.
Firefighters said they could smell a heavy odor of natural gas rising from under a playground after crews from Sposeto Engineering, Inc., ripped through a gas line with a trencher.
