A woman driving a car that smashed into and wedged itself under a big rig at Chrisman and Valpico roads was flown to a Modesto hospital and is expected to live.
Crews from Tracy Fire and Defense Depot Fire cut away the rear section of the Honda to reach the driver pinned inside. Glenn Moore/Tracy Press A car that pulled into an intersection this morning ran into a
big rig that slid to a stop at Valpico and Chrisman roads, wedging the
four-door sedan under the truck.
The four-door Honda rammed through the underside of the
truck — its front bumper stuck out the other side — and crumpled against the
truck’s four rear wheels. The Tracy woman driving the car got pinned inside and
knocked unconscious, according to police.
Police said they’re still unsure exactly about how the crash
happened.
Firefighters and police peeled back the crushed car and
pulled the listless woman out during the rushed scene that unfolded afterward
outside the Tracy Defense Depot between 9:30 and 10:45 this morning.
A helicopter flew the woman to Doctor’s Hospital in Modesto
for serious, but not life threatening injuries.
It took about an hour to get the woman out of her car.
Emergency response workers immediately cut off the woman’s
clothes, strapped her to a gurney and secured her neck in a brace. She didn’t
move the entire time. Her head was bloodied and she appeared to be unconscious the entire time.
The driver is readied for the trip to a Modesto hospital. Glenn Moore/Tracy Press The driver of the Vikas Carrier truck from Fresno stood just
outside the Ellissigary Ranch homes across from the depot, where a group of
employees pressed against the fence to catch a glimpse of the crash.
Police blocked off Chrisman Road from Schulte to Linne roads
and down Valpico a couple blocks to allow room for the helicopter, two fire
trucks, several police cars and to keep onlookers too far to witness the grisly
scene.
Trucks lined up on Valpico Road, waiting for the roads to
re-open.
Depot police said no one actually saw the wreck.
“We just heard the sound of the crash,” depot Officer Jacob
Ratliff said. “There were no witnesses.”
Police have yet to identify the woman.
