Livermore man charged with setting fire to his then-girlfriend's car in June.
Police arrested a
22-year-old Livermore
man on suspicion of setting fire in late June to his ex-girlfriend’s car, which
also burned a building and fence.
Lawrence Thompson
got into a heated argument with his then-girlfriend at a home on the 300 block
of West Mount Oso Avenue.
The two were going through a bad breakup, according to police.
Thompson asked
the woman to give back a cell phone and $200, according to police records, and
was said to have threatened to destroy some of her property if she refused.
Police charged
Thompson with then setting fire to his ex-girlfriend’s 1998 Ford Explorer. The
fire licked up a nearby fence and building, leaving behind $11,500 in damage.
The alleged
arsonist then tried to make amends, police said, by sending the woman apologetic
text messages, e-mails and flower bouquets.
Tracy and
Livermore police partnered to arrest Thompson. They arrested him Tuesday and
booked him in the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of arson. He is being held
in lieu of $500,000 bail and is set for a Thursday court appearance.
