For years, there was an office supply store on the corner of 10th Street and Central Avenue, and then a pizza place moved in for just over a year.

Now Tracy’s newest restaurant-to-be will serve South Pacific food on that very corner.

Longtime caterer Teresita Valera, who plans a grand opening Aug. 8 for Hula Hut, isn’t new to the downtown. She’s sold food for the Tracy  Farmers Market since 2000. This will just be a permanent spot to share her unique recipes with the city.

Hula Hut will specialize in Filipino, Hawaiian and American food. Beer and wine will also be available.

“The customers are clamoring for me to open,” Valera said. “Even my Lodi and Livermore customers say they will come.”

Valera has a degree in nutrition from a college in the Philippines and said she has catered to the Hollywood stars in Beverly Hills. She also managed Good Earth restaurant in Brentwood, for 10 years.

She said she’s been all over the world sampling food in search of new tastes.

“I have a big menu that will cater to a very vast crowd,” Valera said. “My experience and travels contribute to this.”

Patrons of Hula Hut can look forward to karaoke on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and live Latin music on Sunday nights.

Glad to see this. We need someone slinging what we use to call Mindanao Chow, because it rhymes. Love the food. I am looking forward to dining there. My favorite dish is pansit. I probably spelled that incorrectly.

Congratulations! Do you also serve Poi? Still eat it with fingers? Just love the Hawaiian Teriyaki beef strip, just don't recall the Hawaiian Term for it!

Much success!!!!

Something for me to try out next time I visit!

I don't mean to be negative but this place doesn't have a chance. Downtown is a restaurant wasteland.

And it will continue to be a wasteland be until we change that image.

Welcome aboard. I will eat there if you open your doors there. I am quite sure others will as well.

In fact there are several good restaurants in the downtown area but if you don't go downtown you might not know that. smilies/wink.gif

It is not a matter of Image - It is a problem of destination. The fact is, why go downtown when there is nothing there? No activity, void of people and downright boring!

With Bean Festival and other events coming up, I think they have a chance!! Any event will bring more foot traffic? Farmer's Market and so on?

Hope to see much more business opening up soon.

The more places we get into downtown the better. We also need to advertise downtown and maybe offer more incentives for businesses to establish themselves there. It will get better, it just takes time.

I grew up in Pleasanton. In the 70's and early 80's the only people who went downtown were the horse racing people and old locals. There were bars on the windows of some establishments. Now look at it. Tracy will get there. Give it a chance. We love Gerard's, Da Vinci's, Thai Cafe, Shorter's etc... smilies/smiley.gif

Will they have pancit? Everyone's favorite!

Will they have a Spanish flair too?

How about coconuts?

Merienda and bibinka for desert? With tea?

Can't wait for Aug 8! Don't be late!

Would love to see the "island" flair in setting? Create the "atmosphere" to make it memorable...music? Great luck! Sounds great!
