Competition on the half-mile oval will include the open-wheel U.S. Auto Club’s Western States Sprints and Midgets, NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Models, and NCMA Limited Sprints. USAC’s Ford Focus Midgets will race on the quarter-mile track.
Races will begin at 3 p.m. and conclude before sundown.
The Western Late Models are in a 12-race stretch from July and August, with points leader Jason Gilbert of Pleasanton extending his lead with two wins last week. Tracy’s Justin Philpott is making his run for the lead with two top-five finishes and a win. Other racers in this weekend’s event include Manteca’s Guy Guibor, second in points, and 2007 Rookie of the Year Doff Cooksey of Brentwood.
Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg goes into today’s Western Sprint 50-lap feature in a tight points race with San Francisco’s Nick Rescino Jr. Meanwhile, Western Speed Racing’s Nic Faas holds a comfortable lead in the Western Midget points, and Justin Hommel of Canyon Lake leads the USAC Ford Focus Midget points. David Goodwill of Napa leads the NCMA Limited Sprints points. For information: www.altamontracing.com.
