Jason Gilbert takes the Western Late Model weekend doubleheader at Altamont.

Jason Gilbert of Pleasanton picked up two wins in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Models on Saturday at Altamont Motorsports Park.

Gilbert led from flag-to-flag in the first 50-lap late model race, with Kyle Gottula of Modesto the closest challenger. Tracy’s Justin Philpott had to pull out of the race after he lost a plug wire, and Doff Cooksey of Brentwood was knocked out after he lost a tire.

At the finish, the top five were Gilbert, Gottula, Guy Guibor of Manteca, Joey Stearns of Stockton and Vito Ranuio of Stockton.

In the second late model event, Gilbert passed 2007 NASCAR state champion Mark Holman on lap 22, took third from Guibor on lap 15, and stole second from Trevor Schlundt of Clovis on a lap 17 restart.

On lap 28, Gilbert took the lead for good, while Guibor took second from Holman and Justin Philpott charged through the pack to take third. They held their positions for the final 20 laps, with Doff Cooksey and Stearns taking fourth and fifth, respectively.

Sammy Solari of Salida crossed the finish line first in the 20-lap American Limited Stock Car main event, but a post-race inspection revealed an illegal brake bias control inside the car, handing the win to Tim Rappa of Hayward.

Brian Vosburg of Stockton, Richard Harper of Stockton, Joe Morgenstern of Livermore, and Thomas Vosburg of Chico were also in the top five.

Northern California Modified Association Limited Sprint action saw five lead changes in as many laps before David Goodwill of Napa emerged in the lead. At the line it was Goodwill, Pat Ariaz of Manteca, Rob Hammond of Morgan Hill, Ed Amador, and Jeff Burrows of Manteca.

Todd Lynch of Tracy won the 20-lap Grand American Modified main event, leading every lap. Lynch, the division point leader and fast-time qualifier, took a two-second victory over Todd Lewis of Riverbank.

Robert Kennedy of San Francisco, A.J. Ryder of Stockton, and Michael Ostrowski rounded out the top five.

Colby Potts of Stockton won the Future Champions Development Series race over Cameron Millard of Carson City, Nev. The feature, a 20-lap event on Altamont’s quarter-mile oval, featured drivers ages 14 through 16 in Western Late Model cars.

Bob Wilson took two wins in the Formula-4 division on the 1.1-mile road course.

The division for stock four-cylinder cars runs two 10-lap main events each week.
