It didn’t take long for the batters from Tracy American 1 to find their rhythm.

They charged into an 11-2 lead against Tracy National 1 in the bottom of the first inning Sunday in the District 67 Little League 9/10 All Star championship game at Jefferson School. Tracy American held on for a final score of 14-3, ending the game in the fourth inning on the 10-run rule.

That makes Tracy American 1 the third Tracy Little League team to win a District 67 championship and move on to the Northern California Section 3 tournament, which will begins for this level on Thursday. The Tracy Junior American and 10/11 National teams won their championship banners last week.

Tracy American manager Bruce Russell reminded his team afterward that the competition keeps getting tougher in sectional play, but so far effective pitching and batting has lead the team to repeated 10-run rule wins in the district tournament, and an overall score of 64-10 against all opponents in the district tournament.

“Batters one through nine hit the ball,” he said. “When you play like that it’s hard to stop.”

He added that the higher level of competition will show how Tracy American 1 can do in an all-around team effort.

“We’ve probably got the best infield around too,” he said.

Tracy National 1 started off strong in the top of the first. Christian Schwartz got on base when he was hit by a pitch and Jared Finney followed with a two-run home run, his third homer of the tournament, to put his team on the scoreboard first.

When Tracy American 1 came up in the bottom of the first everyone in the batting order got on base and everyone scored in an 11-run rally. The effort included base hits from Dylan Von Hartman, Noah Denoyer, Brandon Russell, Nick Medina, and Thomes Greely.

Greely lead off the second with a double out to the center field fence. Chris Ramon, Robbie Ramirez and Von Hartman all got base hits to make the score 14-2.

Tracy National 1 scored another in the third when Antonio Gigliotti got a base hit and came home on a hit from Tomas Landeros.

Tracy Little League will host the Northern California Section 3 tournament, which begins Thursday at Monticello School.
