The District 67 Junior division title will be decided today after Tuesday's game between two Tracy contenders was postponed by darkness.

Crowded at home
Tracy American’s Zach Abshire (center) steals home as Tracy National catcher Jordan Tencati goes for the tag and Tracy American batter Darren Elbert gets out of the way during a twilight-shortened game Tuesday night. The contest between two teams vying for the District 67 title in the Junior division will continue at 5 p.m. today.
Tracy Little League will take home the championship pennant for the District 67 Junior All-Star tournament, but the team that takes the title and represents Tracy in the Northern California Section 3 tournament next week will first have to overcome some stubborn competition.

After seven innings of tough defensive baseball, the Tracy Junior American and Tracy Junior National teams were tied 4-4 on Tuesday, when the game was called because of darkness. They will continue in extra innings beginning at
5 p.m. today at Sierra High School in Manteca.

Whichever team wins the title can go the section tournament knowing it had to work hard for the title.

"These are the best two teams in the tournament, and we knew (Tracy National) was going to be tough," Tracy American manager Mark Scornaienchi said.

Tracy National coach Mike Loscavio said the talent that got both teams this far was unmistakable Tuesday.

Tracy National took a 4-1 lead early in the game on hits from Matt Loscavio, Johnny Gori and Justin King. Tracy American tied it in the fifth with Manny Robles’ two-run double to deep center field. He then ran home to tie it on Chris Bacchetti’s sacrifice grounder.

Tracy National tried to score the go-ahead run with two out in the seventh when Josh Rogers sprinted from second base on a shot up the middle from Gori, but he was thrown out at the plate as Tracy American’s Kyle Scornaienchi fired the ball to catcher Jason Thomassen in time.

Tracy American also had a chance to score the winning run with two out in the bottom of the seventh, with Robles at third and Bacchetti at the plate. Tracy National right fielder Kendrick Bergmann saw the line drive off Bacchetti’s bat, and it was dropping fast.

"I was just coming in with a lot of pressure and laid out for it," Bergmann said. "Once I went down, I knew I had it."

His diving catch put the game into extra innings, which will be played today. If Tracy National beats Tracy American, which is undefeated so far in the tournament, it will force a second game Wednesday.
