Two Tracy fastpitch teams finish in the top three in an NSA state tourney

The 12-and-under All-American Sports Academy girls fastpitch softball team took first place in the National Softball Association’s NorCal State Tournament, played Friday through Sunday of the holiday weekend.

The Runnin’ Rebels fastpitch team took third place in a separate bracket during the weekend tournament.

All-American coach Lamont Richardson said this is the third year in a row the team has taken the state championship at the event.

“It’s always kind of a capper for the end of the year before we go to nationals,” he said, adding that the team plans to travel to Montgomery, Ala., at the end of the month for that competition.

In the weekend’s tournament, All American swept all five games. The team beat Roseville Elite, 11-3, on Friday; Delta Diamonds, 6-0, on Friday; Sunnyvale Wicked, 10-0, on Saturday; and California Crushers, 10-1, on Sunday en route to a 12-2 victory against Cal Impact in Sunday’s championship game.
