A stabbing and possible arson prompted a meeting with law enforcement, city officials and residents of southern Tracy to talk about how to solve the problem.

I like the fact that there are still citizens who care enough to show up to meetings, voice their concerns, and realize that they're a vital part of the process instead of just randomly complaining and not doing much else. Get the knuckleheads off the streets and behind bars where they belong.

I agree with you Just a citizen. In the beginning, the police chief said that Tracy didn't have a gang problem. I'm assuming that now he's changing his stance. The residents of Tracy have said all along that there is a gang presence in this city and for a long time we were told that there wasn't. From the looks of the back of those vests that say Gang Unit it appears that the police department is officially saying that we have gangs in this city.

I saw Irene Sundberg standing in the backround, did she contribute anything during the presentation? She should have, her business is probably well protected by the city police. Kind of convenient isn't it?

Did Celeste Garamendi show up too? If not, what does that tell any potential voters?
Steve was there.
Anyone else significant show up?

Really liked Chief Krauss' program, getting community involved, hopefully with consistence we would "reclaim" Tracy from offenders!

Kudos to everyone who participated!

OK- I'll be the first to say it: most of the crimes being reported involve Tracy's youth. Now, I do not pretend to be an expert, but if the parents were more involved in their children's lives, perhaps the crime rate would drop dramatically. I grew up in Southern California, and my parents were very much a part of everything I did. As a result, I wasn't out all night partying with friends, I wasn't testing my graffiti skills all over the city, I never burglarized anyone's home or store, I've never been caught shoplifting, I wasn't ever involved in any fights. I honestly believe this was because my parents did not leave it up to the police to raise us. They decided when we were born, that they would be involved in our lives, and always keep an eye on what we were doing. I wasn't allowed to leave the house unless my parents knew where I was going, who I was going with, what time I'd be home, and only if I agreed to check in every hour or so. Yes, it seemed strict at the time, but it kept me out of trouble. Plain and simple, most crimes would not happen if the parents of Tracy cared where their kids were, and if they cared what their kids were doing when they weren't home.
